On a gray background, the figure of José Sacristán appears, imposing and solitary.
With red jersey, like the dress of the lady who will never appear on stage, and suede jacket.
The lady in red was actually Ángeles de Castro, the wife of Miguel Delibes.
Although narrated as a novel monologue, the author from Valladolid wrote this text to testify his admiration for the woman who inclined him towards literature and with whom he had seven children, and the pain of his illness and death at 48 years.
This Thursday, March 14, at the Nuevo Teatro Circo in Cartagena, will take place the play 'Señora de rojo, on a gray background', organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena, at 9:00 p.m.
The story is about a painter, with many years in the trade, who has been plunged into a creative crisis for some time.
Since his wife died unexpectedly, which was everything for him, he has practically not been able to paint again.
In this state he remembers, since very young people met, both the happy events that had him tenaciously in love with her throughout his life, and the appearance, little by little, of a disease that, without anyone supposing it, led him to a death unexpected at 48 years of age.
The plot is set in the summer and autumn of 1975. The oldest daughter of both is in jail for their political activities.
It is on those dates when the first symptoms of her mother's illness emerge that the daughter will live from inside the prison.
It is another permanent memory in the life of his father, who also now relives.
This theatrical work is the story of a love story on the road unbridled towards death, which places us in that Spain with unequivocal features, which tells us about happiness and its loss, and that reaches the privacy of every human being, and to his emotion, for the straight and simple path of truth.
A love that is filled with drama, and perhaps more fullness, when it appears first without making noise and then as a brutal rupture, the disease.
An overwhelming portrait of "a lady in red", so luminous, "on the gray background" of all the circumstances that surround her end.
Tickets are available on the web and at the box office of the Nuevo Teatro Circo de Cartagena from 20 euros.
