17 'with arrangement by composer Ginés Martínez Vera |

The Auditorium and Palace of Congresses The Batel hosted this past Friday, March 8, a special moment with the celebration of the sixth edition of the Extraordinary Concert of Between Strings and Metals.

The concert was attended by the Councilor for Culture, David Martinez and the Deputy Director General of Vocational Training and Special Education of the Region of Murcia, Mónica Escudero.

The Cartagena Symphony Orchestra brought together a group of 45 musicians on stage.

Each and every one of them was chosen conscientiously, the best musicians for a unique concert where the public enjoyed from minute one until the end.

Among them there were also former winners of the contest between strings and metals, such as Javier Valero Lobato, Ella Heinbigner Mosi, Celia Ingles Martínez, Irene Ortega Albaladejo, Miguel Ángel Ros Soto, Delia Nerea Bastida Paterna, Diego de Jódar Banacloig, Alejandro Solano, Álvaro Pintado as assistant director ...

(some of them also components of the JOSCT - Young Symphony Orchestra of Cartagena).

In short, an orchestra with the best musicians, proof of this was the result of the concert offered yesterday at the El Batel Auditorium.

Delivered musicians who put all their talent and soul into this extraordinary concert.

An orchestra was formed at the level of the great national and international orchestras.

Directed in addition by one of the best directors Leonardo Martinez who said so after the end of the concert praising the work done with this group and each and every one of its musicians and, especially, and on the occasion of Women's Day, all the women who are part of it.

It was a luxury to have under the baton the presence of a Director with a long experience and international fame, such as Leonardo Martínez, who has directed many orchestras, such as the Prague, Carlsbad Symphony Orchestra, Moravian Filarmonic Orchestra, North Czech Philharmonic in Teplice (Czech Republic), Kharkov Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), Cucurova State Sinfonie (Turkey), Szczecin Philharmonic (Poland), Symphonic Orchestra City of Elche, Symphony Orchestra of Córdoba, Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia, Orchestra of Extremadura, Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, etc ...

With the completion of the Extraordinary Concert between Strings and Metals, we recovered the presence of former winners of this contest, who have consolidated and reaped numerous successes in their musical careers.

This year the soloist chosen was the violist Ana Mba Flores (1st Prize of the X Edition in 2007), who with her performance of the Concerto de Hoffmeister dazzled the numerous audience, showing her virtuosic skills with the viola.

Without a doubt, the Schumann, like other romantic musicians such as Brahms, felt themselves inheritors of the tradition of Austro-Germanic Classicism.

In this tradition is Franz Anton Hoffmeister (1754-1812), composer and editor of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.

As usual, his Concerto for Viola is divided into three movements.

The initial Allegro combines passages of marked melodic elegance with very virtuosic fragments, such as the cadence where the violist has to demonstrate their technical skills.

The Adagio is reminiscent of an operatic aria, as the orchestra accompanies, in the background, the ornate melody of the soloist.

The concert concludes with a Rondó that demands a variety of articulations and striking "echo" effects from the viola.

The event culminated with an encore of the piece El Bateo by Federico Chueca, which was not foreseen in the programming.

CLARA SCHUMANN

Luxury program also, because being such a special day as International Women's Day, and being honored this year in Entre Cuerdas y Metales the composer Clara Schumann, better known as an interpreter (she was one of the most reputable and best paid pianists of the nineteenth century), but like many other women in their time unjustly recognized in the field of composition.

That is why here our most just tribute world premiere one of his "masterpieces", praised by Mendelssohn himself: The Trio op.

17 with arrangement made by Ginés Martínez Vera for orchestra, - composer recently awarded the gold medal at the prestigious Global Music Awards.

Two hundred years after his birth, the attendees had the opportunity to check the enormous quality of their music.

In particular, they enjoyed the two central movements of his Trio op.

17 for violin, cello and piano.

The Scherzo begins with an elegant melody characterized by an iambic rhythm, while the central part shows a more intimate character.

For its part, the Andante displays an expressive melody typical of Romanticism that is interrupted by a rhythmic and dramatic passage.

"There's nothing bigger than the joy of having composed something and then listening to it."

These were the words that Clara Schumann (1819-1896) wrote in her diary when she finished composing the work that opens the concert this afternoon.

However, despite the joy that composing provided, Clara invested her greatest efforts in her piano career.

Indeed, she was one of the most recognized - and best paid - interpreters of Romanticism, equaling other virtuosos such as Liszt or Thalberg.

In fact, Clara's reputation began in her childhood, when she stood out as a child prodigy capable of composing, improvising and playing pieces of great difficulty.

His first teacher was his father, the pianist Friedrich Wieck, who also taught Robert Schumann.

Five years after they met, Clara and Robert got married;

From that moment on, she took her husband's name.

Robert encouraged her to compose, and both helped each other to improve their works;

even so, Clara often doubted her own creative capacity.

He internalized the idea that women could not count on this talent: "No one has been able to do it, so why could I expect it?" He wrote.

This internal conflict between her inclinations toward musical composition and the questioning of her own ability tormented her throughout her life.

FELIX MENDELSSOHN

The evening of the concert was in charge of the Symphony No. 3 "Scottish" by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847), another romantic musician who declared himself an admirer of Clara Schumann.

This author excelled as a composer since childhood, something common in his family, since his sister, Fanny Mendelssohn, also showed ease in writing and interpreting music from childhood.

The two received an excellent training, even their parents turned the living room of their house into a concert hall where Clara herself played frequently.

On the other hand, as an adult, Fanny received family pressures, including those of her brother, to stop composing, while Felix obtained great support that allowed him to visit all of Europe to complete his education.

Precisely on his trip to Scotland, in 1829, Mendelssohn began the composition of his third symphony, although he did not finalize it until 1842. It is not clear whether he used Scottish melodies or if he created them;

In any case, the work evokes the sensations he had during his stay in that country.

The first movement presents the same theme with two contrasting elaborations: if the introduction can be reminiscent of the typical mist of the north of Great Britain, then it becomes a happier melody that ends up fading away.

The Scherzo has true popular flavor, with a theme typical of Scottish pipers exposed by the clarinet.

Perhaps the most praised movement is the Adagio, whose beautiful melody has been seen as an intimate religious prayer.

The energetic finale has been compared to a battle that ends with a hymn of thanks after the victory.
