The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has requested today, through the mouth of its rector, Alejandro Díaz, and the director of its School of Industrialists, Patricio Franco, a line of Cercanías Murcia-Cartagena to facilitate the transit of university students among the two main cities of the Region.
"The whole of society and the users and workers of the universities would benefit greatly from a more frequent rail connection", said the rector during the inauguration of the day.
The School of Industrialists of the UPCT has organized on Thursday the II Technical Conference on Transport, entitled Analysis of proposals for the rail system of the Region of Murcia, with the assistance of experts and political representatives.
The improvement of the Murcia-Cartagena line, the connection with El Gorguel and the territorial structuring through the rail system have been some of the topics that have been discussed during the day.
"We propose the need to have a commuter line with modern trains Murcia-Cartagena that allows us a passenger transport much faster and often travel at most every 50 minutes, maintaining the university bonus", explains Patricio Franco, director of the Industrial School.
"We also stress the need to bet on the development of El Gorguel and a ZAL near Cartagena to improve infrastructure for the transport of goods, as this could allow the revitalization of the economy of our region through the generation of companies of different sectors, which could also provide more jobs for our graduates and therefore could favor the Polytechnic University of Cartagena in attracting students, "he concludes.
They have made presentations by Francisco García Calvo, industrial engineer and advisor to the president of FERRMED, Luis Lezaún, industrial engineer and founder of the Association of Friends of Zaragoza Zaragozana, José Andrés Moreno, industrial engineer and professor of transport engineering at the UPCT, Patricio Franco, industrial engineer and director of the Industrial School of the UPCT, Alfonso Hernández Zapata, president of the FREMM, Antonio del Campo, railway and Ex-Councilor of Renfe by CCOO, and Domingo Centenero, historian and member of the Platform Pro- burial of Murcia.
