The General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor has informed the City of Cartagena that the "Framework pollution protocol" has been activated in La Aljorra, with level 1 (preventive), and in the Valley of Escombreras, with level 2 (corrective ), by exceeding the daily limit value of PM10 particles during the day yesterday 06/03/2019.
Specifically, the average daily concentration of PM10 particles recorded during day 06/03/2019 was 83 μg / m3 in La Aljorra and 54 μg / m3, in the Escombreras Valley, compared to 50 μg / m3 it is established as a daily limit value that can not be exceeded more than 35 times per year, in the RD 102/2011 relating to the improvement of air quality.
The levels of contamination by PM10 particles recorded in Alumbres (29 μg / m3) and Plaza de Mompean (30 μg / m3) have not exceeded the reference limit values.
The Directorate General for the Environment and Mar Menor informs that the appropriate verifications are being carried out to identify the possible cause of these exceedances, which have also been registered in the city of Murcia.
The recommended measures, during the period that the preventive level remains active, are the following:
1. Preferentially use public transport, shared use of private vehicles and avoid as far as possible the displacements in private vehicles when it is not strictly necessary, especially in the displacements within the towns.
2. Do not burn stubble or agricultural margins.
3. Avoid carrying out earth movements, cultivation areas and other practices that contribute to the generation of dust clouds while the episode persists.
4. Try to avoid exposure to the ambient air of especially sensitive people, such as children, the elderly and the sick.
