With the objective of offering training on climate change to the educational community of Cartagena, the Department of Education and the Infrastructure Area in collaboration with the Info, and on the occasion of the commitment acquired by our municipality with its adhesion to the Covenant of Mayors, has scheduled for this course and which comes a colloquium talks by qualified professionals that will address this issue in a simple way for young people, as well as explain how our municipality has initiated this adaptation to climate change with the LIFE Adaptate Project.
This activity will take place this Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the IES centers San Isidoro de Los Dolores and IES Los Molinos del Barrio Peral, which will be joined by another educational center soon.
They will discuss local initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, which is the world's largest movement of cities for local action on climate and energy.
It started in Europe in 2008 and it gathers thousands of local governments that voluntarily commit themselves to reach and surpass the objectives established in this matter by the European Union.
Among them, they agree to support the implementation of the European target of 40% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030, compared to the base year established in Kyoto (1990).
For this, the municipalities must define, within two years, a Plan of Action for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES), which includes measures to be taken to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt to it. .
Regardless of the size of the municipalities, as well as the state of implementation of their policies on energy and climate, any local entity that has been democratically constituted by elected representatives has the possibility of being part of this Pact, which currently has a fence of 8,000 local and regional authorities from 57 countries.
