The Ministry of Tourism and Culture today delivered to the members of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Nazareno de Cartagena (Brotherhood Marraja) the carving of the Blessed Virgin of the Loneliness of the Poor, held in 1959 by Juan González Moreno, after having been submitted to different interventions to ensure its conservation in the Restoration Center of the Region of Murcia.
This polychrome wood carving, gilded and stewed is, according to the general director of Cultural Assets, "one of the sizes that best show the quality of the imagery of the Region, cradle of great sculptors".
After his visit to the regional workshop, he added, "it has recovered its splendor, its brightness and magnificent polychromy, discarding any type of structural damage, and will now return to its city to be admired by those who come to the claim of one of our traditions. of International Tourist Interest, the Holy Week of Cartagena ".
The image has remained for three months in the Restoration Center, where it has been subjected to a process of cleaning and conservation, since it was restored in this center ten years ago.
Some frictions derived from its processional use have been corrected, also eliminating new cracks;
an intense physical-chemical cleaning has been carried out and the process has finished with a varnishing that has taken into account the singularity of González Moreno's polychromies, applying a satin finish for the polychrome areas in oil and slightly increasing the brightness for the golden areas and stews.
