The streets Mayor, Canales, Aire, Jara, Santa Florentina, Honda, Carmen, Jabonerías and Plaza del Risueño, will be those that welcome the hangings, galas and decorative elements of the participating balconies in the fourth edition of the Balcony and Façade Beautification Contest in Holy Week 'City of Cartagena'.
This contest is organized by the Association Women Cofrades of Cartagena, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena, in order to enhance the charm of the streets of the city during the celebration of Holy Week, declared of International Tourist Interest .
"Holy Week is the biggest week, the most important days for all Cartagena and Cartagena, and I think our city should look like it deserves and all tourists who come and look up not only see our beautiful modernist buildings but that they see them adorned and adorned "has indicated the councilman of Culture, David Martinez, during the presentation of the fourth edition of the contest.
All residents of Cartagena will be able to participate by embellishing balconies, windows or facades of buildings located in the city where the procession of the Holy Week processions takes place, or outside of this route.
The shop windows of commercial establishments will not be able to participate in the contest.
Registration will be free and will be made with the delivery of the registration document completed in the Contest Bases by email to mujerescofradescartagena@hotmail.com or by mail to the Association Women Cofrades de Cartagena.
The registration period is until April 7, inclusive.
One of the requirements of the contest is that the balconies and windows should remain adorned from April 8 to 21, both inclusive.
In addition, participants must send a photograph of the balcony with the ornaments in order to be published in any medium by this association association.
The evaluation criteria of the contest that will be taken into account are: the originality, the ornamental quality, the harmony and the design of the set, being excluded those balconies whose ornamentation is foreign to this festivity.
The presentation of the event was also attended by the president of the Association of Women Cofrades, Victoria Botí, and her secretary, Charity Banacloig.
Botí pointed out that last year there were 17 participants but "even if we want more people this year, the quality of the balconies is better than the quantity".
The jury will assess the balconies and facades according to these criteria and will announce the results to the winners on April 12.
The prizes are composed of: a first prize, worth 250 euros and a diploma;
a second prize, endowed with 150 euros and a diploma;
two runners-up, endowed with 50 euros and diploma, and a special mention to the most original.
The winners will be given a poster indicating the prize won so that it can be installed, if they wish, on the winning façade or balcony.
Victoria Botí concluded by asking that "on Ash Wednesday, the Cartageneras and cartageneras cofrades begin to adorn their balconies with flags and hangings of the colors and shields of their brotherhoods to show the beauty of Easter Cartagena."
