The Fiestas de Carnaval de Cartagena have since Saturday its monument in the city, just as the processionists of Holy Week and the Carthaginians and Romans had already for a long time.
Its inauguration took place in the afternoon, as a prelude to the departure of the great parade, by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and the president of the Carnival, Carmen Sánchez.
Next to them was the councilman of Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba and Manuel Padín, besides the queen of Carnival and the characters, Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma.
It is an allegorical set that has been designed by the sculptor Minaya Calderón and paid for by the City of Cartagena.
The monument has been located at the beginning of the central promenade of the Alameda de San Antón, very close to the Plaza de España, where carnivals traditionally take place, and its central elements are a sphere and a mask.
The ceremony has concluded with the performance of choreographic groups.
