The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Secretary of State for Development, Pedro Saura, and the vicar general of the Bishopric of Cartagena, Juan Tudela, signed this morning at the Consistorial Palace the protocol for the implementation of the restoration of the Cathedral of Santa María la Mayor.
Through the agreement signed this morning, the Bishopric is committed to making available the property to proceed with the renovation work and the City of Cartagena to convene a contest of ideas that incorporates a memory of needs to choose the restoration project.
In the jury of this contest there will be representatives of the Ministry of Development, the City Council and the Bishopric.
For its part, the Ministry of Development is committed to draft the implementation project and finance the works, respecting the idea of ​​the winner of the contest.
For this purpose, the Ministry of Public Works has a budget of three million euros and the protocol includes a monitoring committee formed by the three entities, whose mission will be to monitor and follow up on all the actions carried out during the reforms. Cathedral.
The protocol has a term of validity of four years, extendable by four others if the parties agree.
