It is advancing that the Master Plan of the Santa María La Mayor church is being elaborated, "so that it is one of the tourist and cultural claims not only in the Region but also in Spain"
The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, affirmed today that with the restoration of the Chapel of Christ of the Socorro of the Santa María La Mayor church of Cartagena, "we take a step further in the recovery of our cultural heritage, which must be enjoyed for everyone. "
After the restoration process, in which the Community has contributed 50 percent with 40,000 euros, and the other 50 percent comes from the Diocese of Cartagena, the Chapel of Socorro becomes the first to be restored from the four chapels from the side that are preserved in the so-called 'Old Cathedral'.
"Thanks to these works the dressing room has been conditioned and the wooden elements that make it up have been restored," the president said.
Moisture problems have also been resolved.
This week the visits to this church have been resumed and, therefore, restored and the chapel can also be included in that tour since both, chapel and church, are of Cultural Interest and, therefore, the realization of a minimum of four visits per month.
In addition to the restoration of the chapel, the preparation of the Master Plan is already underway, which the Community subsidizes with 45,000 euros, "to make the Santa María La Mayor church one of the tourist and cultural attractions not only in the Region but also also in Spain, "said the president, who added that" we want it to be one of the most important heritage sites in our entire environment ".
All this, together with the Roman Theater, which last year received more than 230,000 visitors.
