The remodeling works on the pool cover of La Aljorra have already been completed.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Sports, Manuel Mora, visited the swimming pool facilities of La Aljorra on Monday and were able to check the condition of the roof, which has been completely reformed by the City Council from Cartagena.
The cover of the pool had very important deficiencies, which caused uncontrolled water to enter the interior of the building.
"This situation was practically since its inauguration, in 2011, which forced the Department of Sports to close the facilities until a year ago," explained the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.
It was a highly demanded work, so last year, with the arrival of summer, part of the roof was dismantled and facilities were installed so that they could be used by users during the summer.
Once the season was over, the canvas cover was replaced by a sandwich type of 700 square meters, consisting of two steel sheets with intermediate fiberglass sheet, anchored to the existing structure.
With this installation, an improvement of the thermal insulation and also of the sealing of the interior of the pool has been achieved.
These works have involved an investment of 68,000 euros and have lasted three months.
"This is a very demanded action by the residents of La Aljorra and also from other neighboring towns and we had to do it," said the mayor.
Ana Belén Castejón also added that "we want this new stage to start by offering a free month to all users of this facility."
