Confetis, masks, costumes, feathers, many nerves, songs, tears and applause were the main ingredients of one of Cartagena's highlights: its Carnival, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, which started on Friday.
On February 22, four hundred people from 15 troupes and choreographic groups toured the streets of Cartagena announcing the arrival of Carnival.
A procession that began with the show of Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma in 2018, incarnated by Miguel Lorente and África Hernández.
The dancers and festeros distributed informative brochures to those attending the parade to obtain the declaration of National Tourist Interest.
The procession lasted half an hour approximately where to the sound of 'Life is a carnival' and other carnival songs marked the compass of the steps of the festeros that ended at the Cartagena dock under a sky of fireworks.
12 days of celebration that made the Wsell de Guimbarda pavilion become the stage to choose the Queen and children ladies.
The six candidates for Reina Infantil belong to the groups Salgueiro, Ipanema, Ipanema Baby, the Gnomes, Fantasía a Color and Divertilandia rising to the title Elena Rodrigo, from the troupe Divertilandia, whose ladies were María García, from Gnomos, and, Alejandra Gallego , from Salgueiro.
During the gala, Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma Infantil performed, and the choreographic groups Titánide, Paraíso and Mandala.
ADULT CHARMS AND QUEEN OF CARNIVAL

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, dressed in a red dress with feathers and a hat with feathers of the same hue as her dress, was on this occasion the proclaimer of the Carnival.

Ana Belén Castejón promised to achieve the national touristic interest of the Carnival affirming that "we are going to get it even if we have to sneak our carnivals in more national television news, as we did in FITUR.

As a jury were the businessmen and designers Minaya Barcelona, ​​Carmen Méndez, Pruedencio Aquiles, Lola Ruiz and Cristian Francés who gave the crown to Lara Varela, from the Salgueiro group.
Luisa Ángel Blaya, from Aradia, and Elena Martínez, from Salgueiro, were named as ladies of the Carnival.
Also performed during this great day, two choreographic groups: Renacer, winner of the contest last year, and Titanide, which came in second place.
Although this year, there was no performance of the singles The Singuangos, Don Carnal, Jesus Garcia, and Doña Cuaresma, Helena Cansandra, made the audience vibrate that was at a gala that lasted until dawn between colors, singing and laughter.
COMPETITION GRUPOS COREOGRÁFICOS
The day of Sunday began at noon with the dance of vermouth, in the Plaza de San Francisco, which was enlivened by the group Mandanga.
At 12 o'clock, the youngest children competed in the children's group competition where the Paraíso group won the title.
Later in the afternoon, at 6:00 pm, and at night, at 9:00 pm, the adults, like the youngsters, danced and competed for the title at the Central Pavilion of Wsell de Guimbarda, which was attended by the mayor of Culture, David Martínez.
In the contest, fifteen dance groups participated, among them Sewer and Yecla who did not stop dancing until dawn.
GALA DRAG QUEEN
Today the Carnival continues, at 8 pm, at the Central Sports Pavilion, with the National Drag Queen Contest 'Ciudad de Cartagena', in which ten participants from Badajoz, Madrid, Torrevieja and San Javier will attend.
The eurovision singer, winner of Operación Triunfo 1, Rosa López will put the finishing touches on the event.
