The splendor of Cartagena and the growth of its port tourism activity were the stars, last night, of the gala of the cruise industry in Spain, Excellence Excellence of Cruises 2019, organized by Cruises News Media Group.

The ceremony, held at the El Batel Auditorium, presented the awards to the best shipping companies, tour operators, consignees, ports and destinations dedicated to this sector, which generates more than 1480 million euros in Spain every year.

The event, held in Cartagena for the fourth consecutive year, celebrated its XII edition with thanks to the work of the Spanish Navy and the activity of the Port Authority of Cartagena to make the city one of the Spanish destinations that has experienced greater growth in recent years with a forecast of more than 160 stopovers and 270,000 cruise passengers this 2019.

Among the winners, chosen in a macro survey conducted among national cruisers, highlighted the company Costa Cruises, which won three of the awards, and Pullmantur, which won two awards, including the Best Crew.

The prize for the Best Spanish Port went to the Port of Barcelona.

The special mentions also took place last night at El Batel, highlighting the notorious port development of Porto de Leixões (Portugal), the innovation and environmental commitment of the company Intercruises, and the professional delivery with the "Andrés Mira Domenech" award, dedicated the president of MSC Cruises, Emiliano González, for his contribution in the growth strategy of the cruise market.

In addition to recognitions to the industry, the celebration featured pole dance shows and various videos showing the historical journey experienced by cruise tourism from its early days to today.

The humorist Mr. Corrales was the one who put the note of humor to the night as master of ceremonies of the gala, in which he joked with the cultural heritage of Cartagena or the popular "Asian coffee."

This edition of the Excellence Awards of Cruises 2019 has been promoted by the Port Authority of Cartagena, the City of Cartagena and the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia, and has had the sponsorship of Cartagena companies Mediterranean Unique Experience, the Association of Businessmen of Maritime Activities (ASEAM) and the Maritime Agency Blázquez Cruises, among others.
