They will take a proposal to Plenary to end this injustice perpetrated by the company and allowed by the City Council
Labor exploitation, unworthy conditions, poverty wages, feminization of poverty ... This is how CTSSP-PODEMOS describes the conditions of the cleaning workers of schools in the City of Cartagena, a privatized service run by FCC.
The purple formation that qualifies the situation as unworthy and humiliating and affirm that it directly affects 190 women hired by the FCC for the cleaning of the Public School Centers of the municipality of Cartagena.
A service concession to a monopoly that pockets for it 3 million euros per year.
The municipal group of PODEMOS has denounced that women hold 3 and 4 hours a day (never full days), for which they charge very low salaries: from 350 to 600 euros per month.
With these salaries, these women have to support their family, because many of them are alone and with family responsibilities.
Exploitation is even more unfair when comparing the salaries of these workers (of € 8,500 per year on average) with the salaries of the headquarters structures agreed upon with the company, which reach € 48,000 per year.
Said headquarters not only work for the cleaning contract of schools, but they are FCC headquarters that also develop their function in other contracts, such as LHICARSA, garbage collection in Alhama, Fuente Álamo and San Javier, cleaning of schools in the City Hall of San Pedro del Pinatar, or the cleaning of the El Batel Auditorium.
In other words, the precariousness of the school cleaning workers arises from the privileges of the head offices of other services of the same company.
It also draws the attention of PODEMOS the number of meters that these workers have to clean, in their half-day, those who arrive at it: A part-time worker must clean on average 6 classes, two toilets, one tutoring and two corridors (many spaces full of furniture and games, which is not the same as cleaning open spaces).
From CTSSP, the municipal group of PODEMOS, consider that it is necessary to immediately end this situation of exploitation perpetrated by the company and promoted by the City Council, and for this reason they will raise to the next Plenary a motion to improve the working conditions of these Workers: Knowing that there is a bag of 1,638 monthly hours out of contract, they will propose that these hours be used to extend the days and thus improve the working conditions of the cleaners.
From the purple formation they will also ask to adapt the spaces and meters that should be cleaned to the working days of the workers.
And they will demand in Plenary to review the structures of headquarters that are specific to FCC and that are used for the management of contracts other than the cleaning of schools.
Finally, they will demand again that the Municipal Recruitment Observatory be set up immediately, so that all political groups, trade unions and social agents can control the privatized public services that are financed with money from everyone.
From PODEMOS have regretted that the PSOE Government is absolute connoisseur of these injustices, and that tolerate and encourages: "The Socialist Government Foster Contract Cures (FCC)", states Pilar Marcos in obvious allusion to the acronym of the company.
The spokesperson of the municipal group and candidate of PODEMOS to the Mayor, believes that "after the privatization of the service, the City has ignored the control of the company, and favors job insecurity with permanent tenders down, a practice that results shameful for a government that claims to be called a worker and a socialist, but which in practice favors the continued growth of the number of poor workers in our municipality.
