The Municipal Group MC Cartagena will present a motion at the next Plenary to urge the competent institutions, as well as their owners, to advance in the project already prepared for the restoration and recovery of the Mill of the Cañadas, located on a private estate of the deputation of Los Dolores, in the vicinity of the Siphon road.

In this sense, the councilor and head of the training Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, recalled that the aforementioned project has the approval of the owners and the City Council.

It is one of around two hundred mills that are within the natural limits of Campo de Cartagena, "most of them in a dilapidated state," said Segado.

In relation to the Mill of the Cañadas, designed to extract the water from the subsoil and that was left in disuse when that water began to be scarce, "from MC we make concrete proposals before the numerous obstacles with which the owner family has always been found by of the CARM in its intention to conserve it and, even, to give it a use similar to the original one, which would save this mill from the sad future of the disappearance ".

It should be noted that, recently, the owner wanted to proceed to the perimeter fence in order to avoid the plunder that has been suffering continuously.

However, due to problems with the boundaries of the land, it has not been possible to safeguard the environment required by the administration and the mill continues to be subject to theft and destruction.

Given this situation, highlighted Ricardo Segado, "from MC we believe that it is necessary to continue investing in recovering our heritage, as we have shown to be Government, leaving prepared the recovery of the Mill of Las Piedras and La Asomada, in addition to that found in Monte Sacro, through Casco Antiguo, because we must have a forecast to continue working on these heritage elements, and it is the Las Cañadas Mill that must be restored by the administration ".

The mills, in the red list of the Heritage of Hispania Nostra

Currently this patrimonial element, unique in the region of Cartagena, is included in the red list of heritage of Hispania Nostra, since, as stated in the list itself, these mills are at a very high risk of disappearing by abandonment and looting.

In this regard, the mayor of Cartagena stressed that "the protection as BIC by the regional body is not far enough to protect the mills, it is necessary to have a Master Plan, announced by the Autonomous Community in 2017, which never arrives "

In the same way, the person in charge of Patrimony of MC has assured that said plan "must contain the strategy that solves the biggest problem of these mills: the private ownership of the majority of them and, therefore, the difficulty to reach agreements that allow administrations to restore, value, open the public and maintain the state of conservation of these buildings. "
