Cartagena Port of Cultures has approved today the architectural, archaeological and conservation project for the conditioning of Sector 4 of the Molinete Archaeological Park.
This has been agreed in the Board of Directors of this entity held this Monday, February 11, under the chairmanship of the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, which has approved the project and the specifications for its implementation.
The mayor of Cartagena and president of Cartagena Port of Cultures, Ana Belén Castejón, explained that the tender for the work will be taken out shortly, "for a budget of 446,272 euros, with a deadline of approximately 6 months."
This project is based on the completion of a series of interventions in the Upper and Lower Terraces of the Forum, as well as Cardo II, Insula IV and the section corresponding to the path between the two groups.
"We continue to work tirelessly so that this project advances steadily as it is called to be the new jewel in the crown of our heritage," said Castejón.
On the upper terrace, conservation work, restoration and recovery of volumes will be carried out in order to guarantee the conservation of the same and its understanding by the general public, and on the lower terrace, the intervention is centered on the altar returning part of its volumetry, besides consolidating the preserved remains.
The performance in the Insula IV, will be a superficial archaeological excavation that will include a rest area, with a fountain, and the placement of wooden benches that restore the trace of the historic walls, with a pool that provides fresh and sound and with a vegetable set in the limit with the street that protects moderately from the views, as well as a ramp area to connect with the path that connects the Forum with the sanctuary of the Insula II.
The connecting action of the route between the Temple of Isis and the Windmill Museum, plans to save different archaeological levels for people with reduced mobility. Also, the project includes a step lighting and a monumental one.
"In this way, the future Museum will be joined with the area already in value, facilitating the visitors' journey," said the mayor.
This intervention has had the kick-off thanks to the signing of the new agreement between the City of Cartagena and the Repsol Foundation, for which the latter will make a new financial contribution of 600,000 euros for the Archaeological Park Molinete, which is a Today, also, at the meeting of the Cartagena organ Port of Cultures.
On the other hand, the Board of Directors has approved the liquidation of the 2018 budget, as well as the 2019 budget and the actions to be carried out this year from Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.
