They have seized the illicitly obtained fish and the boat used in the criminal activity
The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has carried out a device to fight against illegal fishing, which has culminated in the detection in fraganti of two people who were, allegedly, furtively fishing the area of the sea near Mazarrón.
The actions were initiated after detecting an increase in people who could engage in poaching in different coastal areas of the Region, so a joint device was initiated between land and maritime units of the Benemérita to prevent and prosecute this criminal activity.
After verifying that the poaching was taking place, the civil guards established a series of surveillance devices in the areas most susceptible to this type of fishing.
One of these devices paid off, when the agents located a vehicle parked in La Azohía, the municipal district of Cartagena, which caused certain suspicions because of its location: an elevated area far from the population.
The agents continued with the surveillance device until two people approached the vehicle.
These had just left the sea and were dressed in neoprene suits.
They also carried a container with several pieces of fish supposedly captured illegally.
The Civil Guards identified the suspects and verified that they had used a semi-rigid boat with an outboard motor to carry out the poaching, which was finally intervened, along with the illicitly caught fish (grouper, gallinaceous and octopus).
The poachers have been reported to be fishing underwater at night and fishing without the required license, among other infractions.
The investigation shows that those now reported, who are repeat offenders in this type of illegal activity, could have conducted poaching in a protected area, specifically in the Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest of Cabo Tiñoso.
The Civil Guard has instructed proceedings for infractions to the Law of Maritime Fishing and Aquaculture of the Region of Murcia, which will be sent to the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries General Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM).
