The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena managed in the plenary session of June 2017 to take forward its proposal to initiate the procedures for Cartagena to adhere to the Network of Friendly Cities with the Elderly, "since then we have claimed without luck information about the steps Manuel Padin, spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, regrets that "the proponent party is the last to know the status of their agreement."

The spokesman of Cs explained that "at the moment there are four municipalities of the Autonomous Community, Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras, which are part of the network, the inclusion of Cartagena should mean the increase of public awareness on this matter , receive information and technical advice, participate in training spaces through the organization of conferences that facilitate the exchange between the municipalities that participate in the network ".

And it also entails obligations, the consistory attached to the Network must promote the participation of the elderly in its territory in the project, make a diagnosis of the situation, make a long-term work plan describing the phases of its execution, follow-up and finally present the evaluation of the results, "we will pass list in the next Plenary to know if our municipality is fulfilling," says Padín.

Plan against the loneliness of the elderly

"The PSOE could have taken advantage of today's meeting with our senior clubs to also explain how the agreement we carried out in November 2018 is being implemented to implement a municipal plan to combat and prevent unwanted loneliness of the elderly in the municipality "Manuel Padín has indicated that he has informed that he will also ask in plenary session for the executive status of that agreement.

The initiative was supported by PP, PSOE and Cs, and counted on the abstention of MC and Podemos.

Among the wide battery of political actions of Cs to improve the attention of this group, highlights the expansion and optimization of the Office of Attention to the Major and implement an "itinerant office", or look for some coordination system with the different OMITAS, with the purpose of giving coverage in neighborhoods and county councils of our municipality.

In addition, Cs has proposed the implementation of a monitoring system to detect cases of loneliness among older people (going to volunteer programs) and the development of a municipal census that respects data protection regulations that help determine, locate and subsequently able to do a follow-up, to the elderly who live alone in the municipality.

A census coordinated with the different entities, associations and clubs of elders and senior centers of the IMAS, as well as with the security forces and bodies that usually detect cases when there is an unfortunate accident.

The development of campaigns to put in value the necessary prominence of the elderly in our society, the increase in the number of intergenerational activities and the promotion of physical activity through the installation of biosaludable games and the arrangement of the existing ones that are defective, are other measures included by Cs in the motion.

On the other hand, orange training calls for the development of a study and analysis on the care needs of the elderly in the municipality, considering the expansion of spaces for this group, taking into account the lack and need of residential places in the IMAS .

The study that is proposed should include an analysis with the possibilities of financing and request for grants and subsidies for the expansion of spaces.

In any case, the development of all these actions should be carried out without prejudice to the fact that, from the Greater Social Services Area of ​​the City Council, an Integral Care Plan for the Elderly can be configured to improve coordination and resources "on the contrary, what we are asking for is one of the bases on which this plan must be built. "
