Cartagena finalizes the preparations for the arrival of the Carnival, which is celebrated from February 22 to March 5.
This morning, February 6, the councilman of Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, the president of the Carnival, Carmen Sanchez, and the vice president, Eduardo Pignatelli, have presented the program and the magazine of this holiday that takes place immediately before Holy Week .
The councilman of Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, has indicated that "it is throwing all the meat in the spit" and has requested to the mass media that "transmit all the programming of activities of the Carnival so that it is echoed in all the Region Murcia and outside of it and thus get it declared of National Tourist Interest ".
12 days of celebration, music, costumes, masks and fireworks where 25 adult troupes will participate, 15 children comparsas, 15 comparsas from outside Cartagena, 7 comparsas of elders, 6 groups of choreography for children, 11 groups of adult choreography, 11 chirigotas, 6 candidates for Infant Queens, 7 candidates for Adult Queens and 12 drag-queen candidates.
This year, the Carnival starts on February 22, at 5:30 pm, with a parade of Welcome to the Carnival that will tour the main streets and squares of the city such as Carrer del Carmen, Plaza del Icue, Gates of Murcia, Plaza de San Sebastián, Calle Mayor and Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
At the end of the parade, attendees can enjoy a fireworks show.
In addition, the brochures of the activities programming will be distributed.
At 9:00 pm, at the Wssell Central Sports Pavilion in Guimbarda, the gala for the election of Reina Infantil y las Damas will take place.
The vice president of Carnival, Eduardo Pignatelli, has indicated that as a novelty this gala will be "dramatized, more childish, less formal and full of surprises".
The 23rd of February is the big day of Carnival with the gala of election of Adult Queen and the proclamation, at 21 hours, in the Central Pavilion of Sports.
This year, the announcer will be the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.

The fourth edition of the Drag-queen National Contest 'Ciudad de Cartagena' will be the main activity on Monday, February 25, at 9:00 pm, at the Central Sports Pavilion.

The singer of Operación Triunfo, born in Granada, Rosa López, will perform during the National Drag-queen Contest as a guest star.
XVII OF THE CHIRIGOTAS AND PASACALLES COMPETITION
On Tuesday, February 26 and Wednesday, February 27, at 7:00 pm, in the Historical Center, very carnival parades will take place.
This same Wednesday, the first semifinal of the XVII edition of the Chirigotas Contest 'Ciudad de Cartagena' will take place, at 9:00 pm, at the El Batel Auditorium.
On February 28, at 9:00 pm, at the Batel, the second semifinal of the Chirigotas Contest will take place, while on March 1, the final of this contest will take place, in two passes (20: 00-23: 30 hours).
On March 1, at 11 am, there will be a school parade where 1000 to 1200 children will participate and will tour the streets and squares of the city such as Plaza Juan XXIII, Santa Florentina, Carmen, San Roque, Soap, Gates of Murcia, Plaza from San Sebastián, Calle Mayor and Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
At 5:00 pm, the Department of Social Services of the City of Cartagena has organized the Carnival of Our Elders.
On Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, at 12 noon, in the squares of San Francisco and Icue, the chirigotas go out to the street to bring music and humor to the Cartagena people who come there.
60 troupes will parade in the parade Carnival 2019, which begins at 6 pm, at the Alameda de San Antón and ends at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

On Tuesday, March 5, the finale of this Carnival is put on with the parade of Don Carnal, at 7:00 p.m., from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to the Central Sports Pavilion.
In this place, at 10 pm, the prizes will be handed out, the Don Carnal balls and the doña Cuaresma nipples will be tasted.
The burning of Don Carnal and the fireworks will close 12 days of celebration.

The galas of choice for Infant Queen, Adult Queen and Choreography will be on sale in El Corte Inglés, while those of the chirigotas in El Batel and the Teatro Circo.
