The tenth edition of the Emerging Art Festival Much More May, organized by the City of Cartagena, through the Department of Culture, and has an Organizing Committee, will be held this year between 10 and 21 May.
Area Councilman David Martínez Noguera, has indicated that they have already approved the bases for the public call for projects for this edition, whose term will end on March 15.
According to these bases, individual or collective projects can be presented in any artistic discipline or creative language and the projects selected by a Selection Committee will become part of the festival's program.
The motto of the 2019 edition is "The Face of the Other, Art and Hospitality."
In the bases it is gathered that "the political discourse on refugees has become dangerously toxic." A policy of identity closure and fear of imaginary dangers threatens to end hospitality towards migrants. moral is insufficient and can not replace the political imperative, hospitality is a very old principle that has historically accompanied many societies, which converted the foreigner into a guest, but now this guest is becoming a stranger.
The considerations on the theme conclude with these questions: "Does art have something to say about the forgetting of the other? Can artists make us reflect with their proposals on hospitality in a world that questions it, without falling into paternalism or good intentions?"
The mayor of Culture has expressed his satisfaction that this festival, recovered in this municipal mandate after four years of suspension, reaches its tenth edition with the wide recognition that shows the number of projects presented each year to the public announcement, and the great number of creators participating in the festival (last year about 800 participants participated in more than 120 programmed activities).
On the thematic axis, the councilor has pointed out that the borders and the transit of people through them, the crisis of asylum and refuge, is undoubtedly one of the great concerns of our time, so that reflection from the world of art about The idea of hospitality is more necessary than ever.
In addition, David Martinez Noguera recalled that "this festival allows art to approach our neighborhoods and councils, especially this year as we have involved 9 neighborhoods of the municipality."
In this way, in this tenth edition M + M will be developed in two territorial areas that are the Historical Quarter of Cartagena and the neighborhoods invited in previous editions of the festival such as the Virgen de la Caridad neighborhood, Santa Lucia, Barrio de la Concepción, San Antón, Barrio Peral and José Mª Lapuerta, and Los Dolores-Barriada Hispanoamérica-El Bohío.
The registration and the necessary documentation can be presented in digital format at the electronic headquarters of the City of Cartagena: (https://seguro.cartagena.es/sedeelectronica/tramites/detalleTramite.asp?codTramite=1528) or printed, in the Office of General Registry.
