The parish of Santa María de Gracia in Cartagena celebrated, on Friday, February 1, the Eucharist of thanksgiving on the occasion of the burial of the relics of the seven blessed Cartagena martyrs of the Vincentian family: one priest and six lay people.
A chapel of this temple houses the relics of Pedro Gambín Pérez (priest), Isidro Juan Martínez, Francisco García Balanza, Modesto Allepuz Vera, Enrique Pedro Gonzálbez Andreu, José Ardil Lázaro and Francisco Roselló Hernández.
The Bishop presided over the celebration, accompanied by the Archbishop Emeritus of Burgos, Bishop Francisco Gil Hellín;
the episcopal vicar of Cartagena, José Abellán;
and a group of priests from the Cartagena parishes.
In his homily, Bishop José Manuel Lorca said that the testimony of these blessed martyrs is a sign of the "triumph of love ... without rancor".
Bishop Lorca insisted that they followed "the best testimony: that of Jesus Christ.
Christ has been his example and today he must be the center of our lives and our eyes ".
The seven Blessed of Cartagena "had faith and God in the center of their lives," explained the Bishop, "for the center of everything is Him."
The episcopal vicar of Cartagena and parish priest of Santa María de Gracia, José Abellán, highlighted the figure of these men, members of the Association of the Sons of Mary of the Miraculous Medal, who "gave their lives for Christ, for Mary and for the Church".
In addition, he assured that his testimony "awakens in believers the desire to follow Jesus Christ."
At the end of the Eucharist, a cloistered procession took place with the relics of these blessed, to the chapel where they were guarded for public veneration.
It involved seven relatives of the seven blessed, each with a palm, symbol of martyrdom, which were placed around the altar of the chapel.
There, the Bishop incensed the ballot boxes and led a prayer, with which the Mass of thanksgiving ended.
