Blas de Lezo, history of the Spanish Armada This Sunday marks the 330th anniversary of the birth of Blas de Lezo, intrepid and courageous sailor, possibly one of the best strategists in the history of the Spanish Armada.
He directed, together with the viceroy Sebastián de Eslava, the defense of Cartagena de Indias from the British siege of 1741.
That battle finally was decisive for the final outcome of the War of the Ear of Jenkins (1739-1748), one of the armed conflicts that Spain and Great Britain fought during the XVIII century.
He was born in Pasajes (Guipúzcoa).
His name has been recorded in History thanks to his epic in the fight.
He participated in 22 battles and expeditions and was known for his enormous value and capacity for strategy.
