- "Obviously, the selection criteria should be conceived and executed by experts, although we think that the value and deterioration of the work should prevail, as far as the process is concerned, we believe that respect for the work of art and conservation should prevail about restoration and, if possible, that reversible treatments aimed at durability are used ", explained Manuel Padín
Cartagena, Thursday, January 31st.
The collection of paintings of illustrious figures from the city since the 18th century that houses the Consistorial Palace has a huge historical value but over time they have suffered natural deterioration and require restoration work, "many works have lost their textures and nuances, their color, and they have even lost their forms ".
For this reason, Citizens has defended and succeeded in putting forward the first Campaign Restoration of the Pictorial Fund of the City of Cartagena with the aim of gradually restoring and prioritizing many of the paintings whose ownership is municipal, depending on the budget availability.
The motion of Cs has been approved by all political groups, except the PP that "does not believe that the Community or the Ministry has to help Cartagena when there is a municipal service of pictorial restoration."
Manuel Padín has also specified that once the campaign is designed, the Government should request economic cooperation from the Ministry of Culture to undertake restoration and advice to the Center for the Restoration of Cultural Assets.
In advance, the City Council must make a list of the detailed state of conservation of each of its works, "here the Government will have to decide whether to hire all this prior process to be commissioned by a specialized company or have the technical and human means to face it with their own resources ".
"As it is obvious the selection criteria should be conceived and executed by experts, although we think that the value and the deterioration of the work should prevail, in terms of the process, we believe that respect for the work of art and conservation should prevail over the restoration and if possible, that reversible treatments are used oriented to the durability ", Manuel Padín explained that clarifies that" there are many examples that have been successfully addressed in other Spanish municipalities and we have no doubt that it is necessary and productive because promote this part of our heritage that perhaps is not so well known but without a doubt, well protected and revalued, is a factor of attraction for cultural tourism ".
QR codes
Although the Councilor for Culture of the City of Cartagena, David Martinez, this year presented an initiative aimed at strengthening the tourist promotion of the city through a virtual visit to the Palace Hall that will allow among other things that any visitor can click on a box and know instantly to know the story it represents and the biography of the protagonist;
"At the moment the physical signage is very poor, that's why we have requested that a QR code be installed with which to enrich the visitor's experience and promote accessibility to art."
