The Department of Social Services of the City of Cartagena has valued positively the campaign deployed against the cold wave that is occurring these days, in attention to vulnerable people.
In a coordination and analysis meeting held this afternoon by the councilor Mercedes García with the groups involved, the information offered to the population in general and especially to the homeless has been considered timely and appropriate.
Mercedes García has pointed out that the social, public and private resources available to the city were offered to those who needed them, making use of them in their vast majority.
He also explained that these were adequate to respond to such extreme and adverse situations.
In this sense, the reception and reception made by the Hospitality Santa Teresa Foundation has been valued positively, highlighting the availability of the resource during the 24 hours a day, in any situation and at the moment in which it was demanded.
The councilor also highlighted the commitment, involvement and professionalism of all the people who, from their entity or their municipal service, who participate in this Special Plan of Ola de Frío.
Proof of this is that people in street situations have been reduced considerably compared to other years
Mercedes Garcia said they are relatively satisfied, because "we can talk about two people on the street" that can be exposed to the cold wave.
"They have been offered all the means available to them, and they have rejected them for various reasons that are not relevant".
However, Mercedes García assures that there is a problem that Social Services has to address, which are substandard housing.
"It is an important issue to address, although these people are also put in contact with the corresponding social services, and the day after the night out, possible solutions for these cases are seen."
The councilor also wanted to highlight the collaboration between the Department and the various associations that collaborate with Social Services.
The coordinator of Cáritas in Cartagena, Petri García, has also highlighted the union between all the groups.
"Very few people are on the street.
If that person is on the street, it is for their freedom.
Even so, they are located and cared for. "
