The solidarity days 'Here we just want to be human', from Cartagena Piensa (30/01/2019)

This Friday, February 1 begins the solidarity days 'Here we just want to be human', organized by Círculo de Silencio and other NGOs with the Cartagena Think Program of the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena, and will do so with a double act in The Luzzy .

The first, at 19:00, will be the inauguration of the exhibition 'Refugees: Data and stories for a counter-narrative' in the Exhibition Hall of the Cultural Center, where you can visit until February 8.

The Refugium Project (developed by the Department of Sociology of the University of Murcia and financed by the Erasmus + Program) and the Friends of Ritsona Association organize the exhibition that arises from the question: What do we know about the refuge ?, to which they invite respond with an exhibition built from works and stories that emerge from the background of the experience of refugees.

Photographs, drawings and comics made in different fields of Greece that, accompanied by rigorous data, allow demolish myths and false beliefs about forced migrations and build a counter-narrative focused on empathy, solidarity and the defense of human rights.

Next, at 8:00 pm, at the Josefina Soria Library, it will be the turn of the presentation of 'As if they had never been', an illustrated poem by the brothers Javier Gallego 'Crudo' and Juan Gallego, which deals with the tragedy of those who die at sea trying to reach Europe.

Today we know that in the last two decades more than 35,000 people have perished in the Mediterranean.

A few months ago, a list of the disappeared was published, of which the name is often unknown.

Before, in 2015, a shocking news headline appeared that was the origin of this album: "900 people could have died yesterday in the Mediterranean".

Not even his death was safe.

For all of them, for what they were and for what they will be, the authors intone this shocking prayer: for the corpses of children, women and men that the waters drag to the shore, for the ghosts that nobody saw depart, for the dead that are lost forever in the depth of our sea.

Javier Gallego 'Crudo' is a journalist, poet and musician.

He is the creator and director of Carne Cruda (Premio Ondas 2012).

He is a columnist at Eldiario.es.

He has published several books, including two poems: Abolition of the death penalty (Arrebato, 2013) and The scream in heaven (Arrebato, 2017), which belongs to the poem of this project.

Juan Gallego is a painter, doctor in Fine Arts and professor of Painting and Illustration at the Rey Juan Carlos University.

He has made numerous solo and group exhibitions.

For two years he made a graphic humor vignette for the Raw Meat program.

In the act, which will be presented by Mateo Ripoll, artist, the authors will participate, and Idoia Moreno, nurse and project coordinator in several African countries and coordinator of Doctors Without Borders in the refugee camp of Moria (Greece) will also intervene.

The conference will end on Sunday, February 10, with a concentration at noon on the esplanade of the Port, as a tribute to the dead in the Mediterranean and other migratory routes during the year 2018.
