"I believe that the region of Cartagena will never have a better opportunity than this one to take advantage of all its port geostrategic potential and this is also understood by the APC, CROEM, COEC, FREMM, IEE, the Chambers of Commerce, UPCT, and ultimately all the exporting and importing companies in the area, but without political support there will be nothing, so we decided to assess the level of support that this project has today in the next ordinary plenary, "said the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena today
Ciudadanos is favorable to the construction of the container terminal that the Port Authority of Cartagena wants to build in the El Gorguel cove, provided it is subject to a detailed study from the point of view of its socioeconomic profitability and return to society with a global vision of the entire Spanish port system and therefore the transport and future economic development of its 'hinterland' and also to obtain all the environmental permits and authorizations required by current legislation.
For the orange formation, the protection of the environment must be put before the construction of this or any other infrastructure, "more if we bear in mind that, in this case, it would affect the Sierra de la Fausilla, environmentally protected by the ZEPA declaration, LIC and Red Natura 2000, and that among its fauna and flora are several endemic species in serious danger of extinction ".
"If all these studies are favorable and the required protection and compensation plans are established and permits are obtained from the Ministry of the Environment and the European Commission, we see no reason not to bet on El Gorguel because, if viable, we understand that this project may be the most important and revulsive at this time for Spain and the Region of Murcia, assuming, together with the ZAL of Los Camachos, a radical transformation of our socioeconomic profile with tens of thousands of associated jobs and annual millionaire benefits, " explained the spokesman of Cs Cartagena that reports that at this moment "pass over our coasts more than one hundred million containers, the possibilities of the project, considered the most productive investment possible for the Region, are too positive not to try" .
"The only thing that Ciudadanos wants is that this long journey and this debate that has already taken place over a decade of processing, with everything that has been invested in reports, studies and projects, ends in Brussels after the declaration of the project as strategic for reasons imperious of the first order, "says Manuel Padin who says that" it is possible that the region of Cartagena never has a better opportunity than this to take advantage of its potential port geostrategic and so also understand the APC, CROEM, COEC, FREMM, the UPCT, the Chambers of Commerce, the Institute of Economic Studies and in short all the exporting and importing companies in the area, all of them are wrong, although without political support there will be nothing, that is why we have decided to evaluate the level of support today he has this project in the next ordinary plenary session ".
The orange spokesman has made reference to the informative event organized by neighborhood associations and environmental groups "I understand the resistance to the project, decades of political outrages of the Popular Party have generated a deep breach in the confidence of our neighbors, but I also believe that there is think that never before has a project been so controlled and supervised like this, if it is viable and the European Commission gives the green light, discarding the enlargement would be a historic defeat for the interests of Cartagena, and I am sure that the rest of the Spanish port cities will know take advantage of the circumstance ".
"Valencia, Algeciras, Barcelona already have the right infrastructures to operate with the transoceanic routes, if we want Cartagena to be at the same level we have to look towards El Gorguel", says Manuel Padín who recalls that "it is estimated that the companies of the Region Some 850,000 containers are currently moving in other ports because the one in Cartagena only has a capacity of 90,000. "
In this sense, and in relation to today's communication of the CTSSP-Podemos training, the orange training spokesman said that "the lack of knowledge of this group about the maritime traffic of goods, the capacity limitations of the current port and the the potential of this really amazing extension, almost as much as its contempt for the institutions and collectives that support it and have studied it. "
It would be necessary to explain to them what the ex-president of the Port Authority, Adrián à ngel Viudes summarized a few days ago in the newspaper La Verdad: "The container terminal that is planned with the expansion of Escombreras is too big for the Port's hinterland but very small to attract transoceanic lines "
Manuel Padín reminds us that maritime transport is the cheapest and most sustainable, if we do not expand, the goods will come out through other more polluting means, "if we do not include this environmental variable we are not carrying out the complete analysis".
In this sense, the orange training spokesman believes that information is missing, "an information campaign is necessary on the situation of this project at all levels of the administration, and with the inclusion of environmental and business groups, complete information and truthful of every detail ".
For Manuel Padín, "if the European Commission considers that it is not viable, we will assume it as it can not be otherwise and we will defend other growth possibilities but listen to what Europe has to say about the project".
