The Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia (OSRM), with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, has doubled this season the number of subscribers for its symphonic cycle at the El Batel Auditorium in Cartagena.
The concerts started on Saturday, January 26, and will continue on February 15.
"Our orchestra is in a great moment," said Marta López-Briones, general director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts (ICA), "as the increase of subscribers in its symphonic cycle and in the Family Concert Murcia now adds a significant increase in the public of Cartagena, doubling the number of tickets sold compared to last season and betting on the decentralization of culture and to bring music to all citizens of the region.
Specifically, the figure in Cartagena has reached 240 subscribers this year.
In the case of the Víctor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia, where the cycle is more consolidated, the number of subscribers now reaches 700, and exceeds 1,100 in the case of successful Family Concerts.
In the first concert of the symphonic cycle of Cartagena, which took place on Saturday, January 26, the training was accompanied by David Grimal, who, in his world-renowned double side of director and musician, offered a monographic program of Beethoven that culminated with the Fifth Symphony and a huge ovation from the Cartagena public.
The concerts will continue on Friday, February 15 (8:30 p.m.).
The Symphony will be put under the orders of its titular director, Virginia Martinez, who will lead an ambitious program of American music that will begin with one of the great clarinetists of the current scene, the Valencian José Franch-Ballester, who will interpret the Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra of Corigliano.
It will also be the first time this concert is performed in Spain.
Next, the Regional Symphony Orchestra will put on the lecterns 'An American in Paris', by Gershwin, and 'Divertimento for Orchestra', by Bernstein.
The violinist Laura Rodríguez, member of the well-known Trío Bacarisse, and the violist Isabel Villanueva, one of the great revelations of the world of music, will perform on May 12 (7.30 pm) the Symphony concertante for violin and viola by Mozart.
The orchestra, with Virginia Martínez to the baton, will close this concert with the Symphony No. 104, 'Londres', by Haydn.
To conclude the cycle, the OSRM and its principal director will receive one of the great figures of music worldwide, the pianist Joaquín Achúcarro from Bilbao.
At 86, and after a career full of recognitions and collaborations with the best musicians in the world, he arrives in Cartagena to offer the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Grieg.
The musicians will put the finishing touch to the concert and to the cycle with a selection of the symphonic poems belonging to 'Mi Patria', by Smetana.
