This weekend, La Manga becomes a sporting weekend with the II Virgen del Mar Popular Race and the 1st Winter Beach Volleyball Tournament.
The 1st Winter Beach Volleyball Tournament is held from 9 am to 5:30 pm at Entremares Beach, next to the Hotel Entremares, on Saturday, January 19, and Sunday, January 20.
A sporting event organized by the Beach Volleyball Club La Manga, the Sports Club La Manga in collaboration with the Department of Sports of the City of Cartagena.
"This sports festival aims to promote sport on the beaches of Cartagena, to value sport as a healthy habit among young and old, and attract potential tourists to La Manga in winter, one of the lowest seasons" has qualified Manuel Mora, Councilor for Sports.
With respect to tourism, the owner of the hotel Entremares, Alberto English, stressed that "this event is a sports and tourism milestone, which shows that with good planning, you can break with the status and above all the image of the environment."
In this first tournament, 120 Murcia players have registered, Alicante, Almeria, Albacete and Madrid will participate in the different matches divided between Saturday and Sunday.
Registration is 25 euros per couple.
The director and organizer of the event, Javier Meca, said that "they have broken with the forecasts, since the number of participants has tripled compared to last year." In 2018, only 40 couples were registered for a test that was carried out in the Polytechnic University of Cartagena ".
On Saturday the matches of the men's, women's and adults 'and minors' category (32 pairs) will be held, while the next day will be held in the mixed category (30 couples).
All matches start at 9 o'clock and at approximately 5:30 p.m., the prizes will be awarded.

The director of the Club Deportivo La Manga, Joaquín Martínez, concluded by saying that "there are 80 users of beach volleyball in the Playa Paraíso municipal complex at the same level as football users", in addition to stating that the La Manga Beach Volleyball Club is "one of the best at a national level.
