On Wednesday, January 16, Pozo Estrecho has celebrated the feast of its patron San Fulgencio.
And it has done it from the 14:30 hours in the enclosure ferial of the deputation cartagenera giving to own and visitors the tasting of the galileas balls.
An activity, organized by the Festive Field, Music and Flower Festive Society, with the collaboration of the City of Cartagena, and in which the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, participated along with a large representation of the Government and the Municipal Corporation.
It is a tradition that emerged five decades ago and has become a symbol of local identity with which visitors are entertained and the cold is fought with a comforting broth with balls of meat mincemeat: an unmissable event in which all the people participate and prepare with care the thousands of balls that have been consumed.
In 1969, the Neighborhood Association of Pozo Estrecho, presided by Antonio Campos Saura, had the happy initiative of opening the tasting of broth with balls that was given to the authorities in the casino on the day of the San Fulgencio Patron, to all the neighbors and visitors that like.
The Association of Neighbors sought or bought the pigs, chickens, bread, and eggs needed for local women to make the meat mince of these meatballs.
A few years later the Cultural Festive Cultural Association "Campo, Música y Flores" with the collaboration of the Association of Housewives "San Fulgencio", took the witness to continue with this tradition.
The fame and goodness of this tasting has transcended beyond the municipal and regional boundaries, constituting today a benchmark and an attraction for tourists and residents of the rest of the Region, which has made the City of Cartagena has requested its official declaration as a festival of Regional Tourist Interest to the Autonomous Community.
PLAZA DE PEDRO FUCTUOSO
After the tasting, at 4:30 p.m., the act of homage to Pedro Fructuoso Torres, who was a councilor of the City of Cartagena and a person who dedicated his life to the study and dissemination of the history of Pozo Estrecho, to the recovery of their traditions and the promotion of culture in the locality.
A galileo of pro, deceased in 2012, and to which the City of Cartagena unanimously agreed, at the request of the Neighborhood Council and various entities, to dedicate a seat.
The public space that bears his name is located in the new area of ​​Pozo Estrecho, between the streets Camino de los Tropeles and Pergamino.
The act has been presided over by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, along with the spokespersons and councilors of the Government and the municipal groups, and the son of the honoree, Pablo David Fructuoso Bastida.
MASS AND PROCESSION OF THE HOLY
The day will conclude with a mass and the procession of San Fulgencio, organized by the parish.
The mass will be at 6:00 pm, with the departure of the procession at 6:45 p.m. from the Plaza de la Iglesia.
