The Municipal Group MC Cartagena will demand in the next Plenary Socialist government to explain the facts that have prevented receiving a grant from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of CARM, published on September 20, 2018 and valued at 500,000 euros, for recovery and enhancement of Cueva Victoria, thus giving continuity to the work begun by the Cartagena-based training to open the public and musealize this unique site throughout the Peninsula.
Likewise, it will question whether there has been any parallel request from the Port of Cultures consortium, an entity run by the mayor, thus making the competition to the Consistory.
The councilman and head of Culture and Heritage MC, Ricardo Segado, stressed that it is "a unique occasion that we have lost."
In this regard, the mayor recalled that the City Council was submitted to the call "to have a serious proposal developed by municipal technicians."
In the same way, Segado pointed out that "it should be remembered that this proposal, whose presentation materialized in the Local Government Board on October 11 of last year, consisted of executing a series of specific actions".
Some of them were about the replication of the bone gap;
the consolidation of new sections;
the extension of the scaffolding of the roof or the topography of the Cave.
"All this contemplates an execution budget of one hundred thousand euros, of which 10% would be borne by the City Council."
Without support, once again, from the regional government
"The Autonomous Community ignored this project and, once again, did not contribute a penny to the heritage of Cartagena", lamented Ricardo Segado, who pointed out that, in the absence of knowing all the data, "points to a boycott of the project of Cueva Victoria, which is out of any municipal and regional investment. "
The Cartagena responsible for Heritage has concluded stating that "this is a new case of PP-PSOE clamp." From the City Council presenting two parallel requests and from the CARM admitting this nonsense and then regret, apparently, what happened.
"For all this, from MC we will continue to watch over our heritage and fighting for the necessary funds to value Cueva Victoria, a site that is still turning its back on those who have always promised nozzle but have not materialized anything."
Impulse during the MC Government to the guided visits of the deposit
The recovery of Cueva Victoria is one of the yearnings most claimed by MC in recent years.
Thus, for more than a decade it has been demanded, by the cartagenerista training, its value.
In this way, from the Department of Archaeological Heritage, under the direction of Ricardo Segado, visits to the site of Cueva Victoria were promoted in 2017, guided by the municipal coordinator of Historical Heritage of the City Council, Mari Carmen Berrocal, and by the speleologist Andrés Ros.
In this way, different sessions were held during which hundreds of attendees could see first hand the paleontological remains of the Pleistocene epoch that inhabited the Mar Menor environment about 900,000 years ago.
Likewise, and as a complement to these visits, the exhibition 'Out of Africa' was organized in the Municipal Archaeological Museum, where dozens of fossils found in the site were collected over the last decades.
