The Minister of Education values these projects "to achieve educational excellence" during his visit to the Atalaya school in Cartagena that participates in the 'Community of Innovation' program
More than 550 teachers from some 50 educational centers will participate in the different innovation and research programs that the Community makes available to teachers this year.
To the usual call for educational innovation projects, in which more than 450 teachers have been selected for this school year (408 teachers and professors last year), we must add the experimental research program 'Community of Innovation', in which more than 120 teachers from the stages of Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education will participate.
This year's participation figures exceed those of the previous year, with an increase of close to 40 percent in the number of teachers involved in innovation and educational research projects.
The Community allocates about 150,000 euros to these training activities, which represents an increase of 140 percent in relation to the previous year.
The objective of these projects "is to facilitate teachers' implementation of strategies and methodological changes in the classroom in order to achieve educational excellence and thus improve the academic results of students," said the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martínez-Cachá, during his visit to the CEIP Atalaya de Cartagena, one of the schools participating in the 'Community of Innovation' program as a trainer of other educational centers.
Training project
'Community of Innovation' is considered as a research project based on the promotion of shared knowledge, peer learning and collaborative work that opens new possibilities for teacher training and for the improvement of the education system.
This program includes formative visits of two academic days to the most innovative educational centers, as well as various work meetings, culminating in exchange sessions of good practices at the end of the school year.
Through this program, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports aims to give visibility to good practices carried out in schools that serve as a reference to other centers in whose educational project the same objectives are pursued.
Also, 'Community of Innovation' is an incentive and recognition for teachers and schools that have stood out in recent years for their commitment to a methodological change in the classroom that has resulted in an improvement in the quality of teaching.
During her visit to the center, the counselor highlighted the history of CEIP Atalaya in recent years in terms of innovation, highlighting its pedagogical project based on project-based learning, the creation of thematic classrooms on the competencies that are being worked on with the students, the application of techniques for the improvement of reading and writing and the calculation and application of the language immersion program in the Infant stage, among other lines of action.
These innovation and research programs contribute to the competence development of the teaching staff, promote the pedagogical leadership, the application and the exchange of good educational practices based on a contrasted evaluation of the results obtained by the teachers and the students.
Alongside these activities, other modalities in which teachers participate actively during the rest of the year are also considered: autonomous training (training projects in centers, seminars of teaching teams or working groups), congresses, face-to-face and telematic courses , seminars and thematic seminars.
In the first trimester of the school year 2018-2019, the Teacher Training Plan has developed a total of 400 activities to improve the professional competencies of teachers.
