The City of Cartagena and the Ministry of Development will soon sign a protocol to establish a framework of collaboration between the two institutions to address the restoration of two heritage jewels of the municipality such as the Roman Amphitheater and the Santa María la Mayor Cathedral.
The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Pedro Saura, have negotiated the inclusion of this open item in the General State Budgets, which will be approved by the Council of Ministers and Cartagena will be provided with the funds necessary to finance the complete restoration of the Cathedral, as well as the work of the following phases of the Amphitheater.
"This protocol, which should include the Bishopric in regard to the Santa María La Mayor Cathedral, will allow the Ministry to make an investment of great importance for Cartagena in several annual installments and in response to two historic demands of our neighbors regarding Patrimony refers ", has advanced the mayor.
The now Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Pedro Saura, participated in May of last year, being in the opposition, in the demonstration called by the Civic Platform Virgen de la Caridad to demand the restoration of the Cathedral and now that it is already part of the Government , has fulfilled the commitment it acquired with this group.
