On Saturday, January 12 at 12:30 a.m. will be held in the Plaza de las Puertas de la Serreta, next to the Artillery Park of Cartagena, an act in tribute to the more than 400 victims, mostly women and children , of the explosion that took place in that same scenario on January 6, 1874, during the Cantonal War.
The Councilor for Culture of the City of Cartagena, David Martínez will attend the event, in which the official chronicler of Cartagena, Luis Miguel Pérez Adán, will read an explanatory manifesto of the historical significance of this ephemeris and in which the words of Cartagena historian are collected , José María Jover Zamora.
The same will be collected by the commemorative plaque that will be discovered next to the old military building, made by popular subscription.
Benito García will also intervene on behalf of the various citizen organizations that have promoted the commemoration of this event, with the institutional support of the City Council.
The day of Kings of 1874, after three months of siege, there was an explosion in the Artillery Park that ended with the political and social utopia of freedom, of those Cartagena, who according to Jover Zamora, "did not do it for a localist patriotism , not because of an eagerness for independence, but because they considered it valid for all Spaniards. "
