- "The needs of these sports facilities, opened in 1986, are not solved with an investment of 50,000 euros for topsoil, replanting the lawn, and improving access to the changing rooms and stores, this sports space requires the execution of a comprehensive project in which all public entities involved in its use collaborate and a strategic plan agreed between the administrations and the clubs for their effective maintenance ", said the spokesperson for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín
Cartagena, Monday, January 7.
Citizens demand the Councilor for Sports, Manuel Mora, to analyze and evaluate for its implementation a project for the reform, updating and improvement of the Municipal Track of Athletics of Cartagena presented by the Athletics Club Cartagena UCAM that has the support of seven others sports clubs of the municipality.
The Municipal Court is usually used by some 600 athletes and hosts the daily practice of training and numerous competitions throughout the year at school, regional and national level.
According to the orange training spokesman, Manuel Padín, "the needs of these sports facilities, inaugurated in 1986, are not solved with an investment of 50,000 euros for topsoil, replanting the grass, and improving access to changing rooms and warehouses, this sports space requires the execution of a comprehensive project in which all public entities involved in its use collaborate and a strategic plan agreed between the administrations and the clubs for their effective maintenance ".
"That is why we have requested a meeting with the responsible mayor, Manuel Mora, to analyze this project and evaluate its economic viability, a document that has the support of various public agencies and the rest of the clubs," Padin said.
Citizens have positively assessed the project proposed by the Athletics UCAM Cartagena directive that includes the construction of a grandstand with a capacity of 500 people, a multi-purpose building called "Casa de Atletismo de Cartagena", the rehabilitation of warehouses and the improvement of the lighting system of the sports space.
In addition, the plan proposes the signing of a collaboration agreement between the clubs, the City of Cartagena, and the regional government for the realization of the various official and school competitions, the promotion of sports, and the organization of related events.
One of the objectives set by the clubs is to be able to organize in the year 2020 or 2021 the European Cup of Combined Events and the Spanish Championship under 20;
for this, according to the project, it is necessary to establish an agreement between public entities, the Athletics Federation of the Region of Murcia and the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation in coordination with the tourist hotel structure of the Region of Cartagena.
Finally, they propose a collaboration agreement between the City Council, the Community and the Sports Council for the administration, control and maintenance of sports facilities.
"Cartagena and the sport of athletics have a historic relationship full of success, our clubs, many of them of great regional and national prestige, represent 23 percent of the entire Region of Murcia, well above other municipalities of large population such as Murcia (14 percent) or Lorca with (6 percent) ", explained Manuel Padin who stressed that only in Cartagena there are 700 licenses of the 2,700 that the Athletics Federation of the Region of Murcia has.
According to Manuel Padín, "clubs, associations and sports schools in Cartagena have worked hard in recent years to professionalize their services and offer the highest quality to users and deserve a response to their needs according to the work they have done" .
