The AgritechMU-UPCT chair has published a series of videos disclosing the benefits and management of the super-intensive olive production system.
These videos show that the success of this system lies in the mechanization of harvesting, pruning and the use of appropriate technologies in irrigation and fertilization, achieving easy management fivefold yields and double the benefits, as assured the experts, reaching up to 2,000 kilograms of oil per hectare.
"The high productive efficiency of the hedge crop allows a lower consumption of water and nutrients, as well as a higher fat content in the fruit", explains the head of the Chair, the researcher of the School of Agronomists of the UPCT Lola Gómez.
"The hedge crops also make it possible to anticipate the harvesting of the olive, improving its organoleptic properties", added the experts.
The costs of implementing this type of crop, about 6,000 euros per hectare, can be amortized in six years, according to the producers and since the collection costs are reduced by 50%, profits are obtained per hectare of 2,500 euros, doubling the usual economic performance.
"We are, therefore, facing an investment with a high profitability, which is being rapidly implemented by farmers and investors who seek to maximize the benefits of their farms", highlight from the chair AgritechMU- UPCT, which has made the series of videos of advice on the implementation and management of this crop in collaboration with expert producers and technology companies.
"The advance in technology, mechanization and varieties developed for this crop makes it foresee an excellent future and market projection for the so-called olivar of the 21st century," they conclude.
