The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, attended this morning the start-up of the Court of First Instance 7, specializing in Family, of Cartagena, by the delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Diego Conesa, and the President of the Court Superior of Justice of the Region of Murcia, Miguel Pascual de Riquelme.

This second court of Family comes to alleviate a very important lack in this matter, not only in the municipality but in all the Region.

In these courts are resolved common issues such as custody of children in the event of divorce, stay arrangements, how to meet the nutritional needs of children, joint custody or disabled elderly to ensure the protection of the State and prevent them from making harmful decisions even for themselves.

The mayor recalled that the implementation of this court has been streamlined in recent months, after the change of national government.

In principle, it was expected to start operating in March, but its implementation has not been possible until the end of the year since in summer it was found that not even the project for the remodeling of the facilities had been drafted.

"Finally, an old demand is answered.

Both the dean of the Bar Association and the president of the TSJ had repeatedly expressed their concern about the collapse situation that the family jurisdiction and, therefore, thousands of citizens throughout the region, lived in Cartagena for the lack of this court.

However, the situation is not resolved.

Cartagena needs the City of Justice to end the current precariousness and that is why we are working to make it a reality as soon as possible.

Soon we will know what location the ministry considers appropriate, "said the mayor.

The new court, which includes a magistrate, a lawyer of the Administration of Justice and nine officials, is in the former seat of the court of Lo Social, number 2.

This court is created today, December 31, 2018, in accordance with order JUS / 790/2018 and will become operational on January 2, 2019.

The premises of the new courthouse have been completely remodeled, have new furniture and are equipped with the necessary computer resources for the optimal provision of the service and has involved an investment of 122,700 euros.
