On Friday, December 28, at the basketball court of Carlos III's urban sports park, the year ended with an extraordinary community activity, within the Intercultural Community Intervention Project (ICI) promoted by the Obra Social "la Caixa", together with Cepaim Foundation and the City Council of Cartagena and, in addition to the goal of intercultural coexistence and social cohesion, intended to complete the aesthetic rehabilitation of this public space usually frequented by young people.
Urban art workshops, outings with participants to other public places in the city, games on our streets, activities with the older neighborhoods ....
and as a finishing touch, finalizing the mural graffiti started this summer on the basketball court of the urban sports park of Carlos III, have configured a program of recreational and educational community activities that have allowed to enjoy the neighbors of the Historic Center and Sector Station of moments of ludic encounter for the intercultural coexistence, during these days of December.
The idea is that the neighborhood is something more than the place where there are homes and residences;
it is also a place of coexistence in which its neighbors construct their identity and feeling of belonging: a fundamental space of socialization from which to seek the involvement of the diverse citizenship that integrates it, as a fundamental strategy to build intercultural coexistence and social cohesion.
The community activity "ConVive en tu barrio: Espacio de Encuentro", is part of the community programming of the ICI Project in which the Department of Social Services, the Department of Education, the Youth Department, the Casco Antiguo Health Center are collaborating of Area II of Health of the Murcian Health Service, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena-UPCT, the Regional Museum of Modern Art - MURAM-, Parish and Cáritas of the San Diego Social Center, the School Patronato Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, the Colectivo la Huertecica , the AA.VV.
Sector Station, Residence and Day Center Orpea, the Diabetic Society of Cartagena-SODICAR, Isen Vocational Training, ASTUS Association, AFAL Association, Afibrocar, TP Cartagena and Cepaim Foundation, among others, as well as residents of the neighborhoods of Casco Historical and Sector Station.
Around 25 entities and institutions working together to move towards this model of responsible neighborhood, diverse and committed to its neighbors, in which cultural diversity is an opportunity to grow together.
THE ICI PROJECT IN THE HISTORIC HULL AND CARTAGENA STATION SECTOR
In Cartagena, the Obra Social "la Caixa" has been developing the ICI Project since 2014, together with the City Council of this city and the social entity Fundación Cepaim, in the neighborhoods of the Historic District and Sector Station where work is being carried out to promote social cohesion and intercultural dialogue
In Historic District and Sector Station, priority is given to the diversity of citizens.
It is estimated that more than 7,000 people have participated in the various actions promoted by the ICI Project.
