The Catholic University will start on Monday, January 14 in the morning at the Campus of Los Dolores the first sign language initiation course, after the success of a free workshop to approach this form of communication made in November.
The expansion of the educational offer of the San Antonio Catholic University in its Campus of the Cartagena neighborhood of Los Dolores with the inclusion of the sign language within the courses taught by its Higher School of Languages, will have a second important milestone on Monday, the 14th. January, with the beginning of the first course of the A1 level of this language, after the success of the sign-language approach workshop held in November
From here, the UCAM has opened the registration to create new groups in the remainder of the academic year at different times for both A1 and the following levels, A2 and B1, depending on the demand.
Courses open to the entire population
The courses of the Higher School of Languages ​​of the UCAM, as much of sign language as of English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, ... are open not only to the university community, but to the population in general, adding of this way a new service to the Region of Cartagena for its socioeconomic and educational development.
The inclusion of the Spanish Sign Language in this training offer will contribute on the one hand to respond to the needs of accessibility to communication for deaf people, eliminating social barriers, and on the other hand to the future labor integration of the students of the UCAM , especially those who practice as professors after studying the careers of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, Infant and Primary Education, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Psychology, but also as complementary training for students and social work professionals, the tourism sector , art, culture, translation and interpretation of oral languages, health, and, ultimately, in any field of action of deaf people.
In these courses the practical aspects of this language will be put into practice, but it will also reflect on the use of its grammatical and lexical structure based on studies, foundations and consolidated linguistic principles.
On the other hand, the participants will know aspects of the "Deaf Culture" and the history that goes together with this language recognized as the official language of the Spanish State and a right for the users of it.
