A lie and a trap, or the eternal unfulfilled promise of the Ministry ... This is how the formation of the CARM has described the announcement of the CARM on the replacement of the equipment of the measuring stations corresponding to Cartagena .... The lie is that said equipment will be available shortly, since they have been paralyzed at the recruitment table for years, as the CARM's own Counselor in the Air Quality Bureau confessed at the time (and without blushing), in front of neighbors, groups, Local Government and political groups of the City Council.
The trap that contains the announcement is that the measuring stations whose equipment will be "modernized", only assume to Cartagena the replacement of a team (maximum two), a totally insufficient number, if one takes into account that what is involved is to significantly increase the reach of the network, to improve its functioning and to keep the citizens informed in real time, without "suspicious cuts" of the measurements.
The trap and the lie are even more obscene if one considers that until a few years ago the municipality had its own measurement network and that it was directly dismantled: today the Ministry sells as an achievement what is in reality a regrettable reality, which is that in Cartagena the air quality is not adequately measured, nor are there equipment for this, nor preventive measures of any kind are taken, and everything is the fault of the intrusions of the "sub-Saharan dust" ... And in general both the City Council and the Regional Government are totally insensitive to the serious pollution problem we have in the municipality.
Faced with the absolute abandonment of functions by the governments of the day, the purple formation has once again reiterated the need for neighborhood organization and civil society, in alliance with environmental groups and the health sector, to conquer one after the other. another what are elementary rights in the XXI century: application of the precautionary principle both in terms of pollution and in the diversion of trains with dangerous goods, complete epidemiological studies of populations affected by emissions, vigilance and strict control over emissions industrial and traffic, expansion of measurements to all possible pollutants, courageous measures to improve air quality that are being applied in other municipalities and permanent information (reliable, accessible and in real time) to the people of the municipality.
