As a result of the information that appeared in the media regarding the Plaza del Lago, the Neighborhood Association of Casco Antiguo and Historical informs that it wants to meet with the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, to explain to the neighbors of the environment of the Plaza de la Merced the plans of the Government of Cartagena for the year 2019, and why during 2017 and 2018 no significant action has been taken in the aforementioned square.
The Association will request this meeting in the coming days, and hopes it will be possible before the end of the year.
Neighbors want to remember that the Ombudsman admitted to process our complaint about the state of the Plaza del Lago, and the various breaches of the duties and obligations of the municipal government (both the previous one and the current one) to maintain and take care of this emblematic space public of the historic center of Cartagena.
After several requests for information from the City of Cartagena, the Ombudsman, in June 2017, concluded the actions taken after accepting the word of the City Council that short-term actions would be carried out on the southern façade of the Plaza and the design of the integral project of the Plaza along with the realization of geotechnical soundings with archaeological purpose.
The residents of the surroundings of the Plaza del Lago affirmed that it can not be considered a prudential time and much less a 'short term', the paralysis of any action during two years since the new fence was placed, for what we consider that they occur the necessary conditions for the new Ombudsman, Francisco Fernández Marugán, to reopen the File: 16013717, which has as its objective our public space.
Neighbors believe it is necessary to remember that on April 29, 2017, the City Council said that it would be carried out in a prudential time "continuous core extraction probes to verify the presence of the rock in the subsoil, since, despite the archaeological excavations , it has not reached the rocky substrate. "
With the obtaining of these essential data for the calculation of the structures, it will be possible to advance in the project that makes possible the coexistence between the historical heritage and the current city. "Now we know from the press that these actions are planned for the year 2019, but we do not even know when the budgets will be approved to finance these works.
The Association of Old and Historical Helmet claims that at least we should be informed of the actions planned in 2019 and that the Executive will listen to our proposals for improvement in the environment before comprehensive reform is possible.
Any neighborhood or district of our city sees how its squares, parks, sidewalks and streets are being repaired when there is a need for it, that maintenance and conservation work is carried out, all of them, except for the Plaza de la Merced.
Decades have passed and everything remains abandoned with the excuse of a future remodeling;
the neighbors are fed up with the political passivity that has led us to this unfortunate situation.
Slabs broken, raised ... The fact of not having finished the works of archaeological recovery and action does not mean that the neighbors can not safely walk the square for fear of a fall due to the poor condition of the pavement.
We have deprived our children and now also our grandchildren of the enjoyment of the aforementioned place, which has gradually been devalued and with it our heritage, sometimes our only patrimony: our houses.
