The 3,350 euros raised this year through the solidarity initiative 'Drop by drop' have been allocated to the Spanish Association Against Cancer.

The money, which has been collected through the donation of a monthly euro that is automatically deducted from the list of professors and Administration and Services Staff of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), has been delivered to representatives of the Association.

The Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) integrates patients, relatives, volunteers and professionals dedicated to the fight against this disease, which today can be considered common, but which is still particularly hard.

The volunteers who work in this non-governmental organization offer their time, experience and knowledge in the support of patients and relatives.

Currently one of the priority objectives is the attention to this increasingly numerous group of cancer patients, who have no coverage or basic needs.

If there is something worse than suffering from the disease, it is not having the means to face it in the most dignified way possible.

The money donated by the university community will be mainly devoted to social work with the sick of our environment: breakfasts for people who can not pay for it in the hospital cafeteria when they are going to get treatment and receive it from AECC volunteers, articulated beds, antiescaras mattresses or food for people without resources, in addition to home care.

The AECC also maintains, throughout the year, a stable program of free activities such as psychological support, prevention and information.

That euro of the payroll is very important for the association, and it will multiply in welfare and attention to the sick.

The organizers of the solidarity initiative, all of them members of the university community, have given the donation inviting all those present to a coffee, Christmas candy and biscuits.

The nominated associations have been EMACC-Multiple Sclerosis Association of Cartagena and Region;

Ostomized Association of Cartagena;

AECC-Spanish Association against Cancer;

ASTUS-Association for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities;

Custodire Association;

Asilo Store Foundation of San Pedro;

Hospitalarios Santa Teresa;

Unicef;

TP Cartagena MM;

Together for Lucia;

AFAL Cartagena and Comarca;

Medical project TURKANA and Hogar del Buen Samaritano.

Last year, the Cáritas San Diego Children's Social Dining Room was chosen, located a few meters from the UPCT Rector's Office, where more than 2700 euros were delivered.
