The 2018 Volunteer Commitment Prizes are now in the hands of their winners.
The awards were given on Tuesday, December 11, to María Requena Meana, in her individual modality and in the collective modality the prize went to the social project of 'La Botica del Libro', with a specific recognition by her volunteer Luis López Palazón.
The awards ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García.
The City of Cartagena, through its Municipal Volunteer Program supports this and other initiatives with the aim of highlighting and putting into value, the work that volunteers do in a disinterested way, working in coordination with the volunteer organizations to ensure the welfare of the most vulnerable people and communities, according to the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.
INDIVIDUAL MODALITY
In the individual modality, the 2018 Volunteer Commitment Award was given to María Requena Meana, a volunteer of the Fade Foundation since 2009, responsible for organizing a volunteer service in collaboration with the Social Work teams in the area of ​​Pediatrics of the Santa Lucia Hospital. through the SECUNDA JUNIOR Project and since 2016 coordinating a new project in the area of ​​Oncohematology called SECUNDA SMILE, being this pioneering project at the national level in the field of adult onco-hematological patient care.
In this modality, people are recognized who, in addition to their personal and professional tasks, devote part of their time, in a continuous and responsible and disinterested manner, to the performance of solidarity activities in favor of other people.
COLLECTIVE MODALITY
In its collective modality, the prize went to the social project developed by La Botica del Libro, an entity that has been fighting against social exclusion for fourteen years, in two highly vulnerable neighborhoods in Cartagena, such as Lo Campano and José María de Lapuerta.
During this time it has offered the groups with whom it works, specifically children, immigrants and people in a situation of social exclusion, answers to the individual collective needs of both neighborhoods.
All this, supported by volunteers (teachers of adult and primary education, educators and residents of the neighborhoods where it operates).
In the collective modality, volunteer projects carried out by entities working in the municipality of Cartagena are recognized, contributing to the social development of the city and consolidating the welfare of all.
LUIS LÓPEZ PALAZÓN
His training in socio-cultural animation and his personal qualities have led him since he was twenty to devote his life to working voluntarily in his neighborhood, José María La puerta.
López Palazón has developed his work in the Huertecica, the Rascasa Association, the Young Group La Puerta, the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and the region, the Association four cats, the Neighborhood Association of José M La Puerta and the Cultural Association and social action La Botica del libro.
His voluntary commitment is currently developed as president of the neighborhood association of the neighborhood José María La Puerta and as a vocal member of neighborhood and intercultural relations in the book's pharmacy.
