Approximately 400 begonias, 4,300 red cyclamens and 1,000 poinsettias (Pascua de Pascua) are being planted in the streets and squares of Cartagena for Christmas.
The delegation of Parks and Gardens, of the Department of Public Services, directed by Juan Pedro Torralba, is working so that all the plant decoration is completed in a few days.
The red flowers are already decorating the Plaza del Submarino on Paseo Alfonso XIII, where 4,300 red cyclamens have been planted.
The choice of this species is because it is a bulbous plant native to the Mediterranean forests that grows in the shade of trees so it can stand perfectly the humidity and low temperatures of winter.
Another 500 copies of poinsettias will also be distributed among the gardens of the monument of the Heroes de Cavite and the Plaza del Cruceiro (on Calle Real).
Another 500 of these same Easter flowers will decorate other gardens of the Plaza de Heroes de Cavite, next to the feet of the Military Government.
Finally, the Paseo Alfonso XII will dye its gardens red with the planting of between 300 and 400 copies of begonias.
In total 5,700 red plants that will give the Christmas touch to the city.
