The Real Economic Society of Friends of the Country celebrates 185 years at the service of the citizens of Cartagena.
For this reason, from the society they have organized different activities framed within a Cultural Week, with which they will commemorate the ephemeris.
The events will take place from 10 to 14 December.
The mayor of Culture, David Martínez;
the General Secretary of the Royal Economic Society, Pedro Negroles;
and the society's education counselor, Antonio Calvo;
they have been in charge of offering all the details of this programming and of remembering the history of this institution.
The Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Cartagena emerged in the year 1833, by Real Cedula of November 9 of SM Queen Elizabeth II.
The mayor of Culture, David Martinez, has explained the reasons why these societies were created during the reign of Carlos III, "the Royal Economic Societies were created to bring culture to the citizens of Cartagena.
The purpose was to collaborate with a responsible society and committed to the dissemination of all kinds of knowledge related to industry, agriculture, commerce, education and fine arts, while engaged in social work among the most needy.
The mayor also stressed that 1876 the Economic opened its doors to conferences, conferences, exhibitions, classes for workers and craftsmen, in addition to transform in 1870 his library in Public Library at the service of the city.
It also cooperated whenever it was claimed by the City Council to sponsor the establishment of centers aimed at social assistance and to raise the cultural level of Cartagena.
With this same commitment of service to citizens, the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country has made available to Cartagena two exhibitions: one of documents and historical books, which can be seen in the library, and another of fixtures and paintings. the period of Carlos III, which will be shown in the society's exhibition hall, located in the building of eclectic style and sculptural decoration, which was built on Carrer del Aire, in 1876 by Carlos Mancha, and which remains today in day the company headquarters.
The Secretary General of the Royal Economic Society, Pedro Negroles, said that celebrating this anniversary is "to recognize the legacy we have received the people of Cartagena, in which time, wanted to put the culture at the grassroots level."
CULTURAL WEEK
The Cultural Week will begin on Monday, December 10, with the appointment of the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, as the first Municipal Authority.
In the same act, which will begin at 8:00 p.m., recognition will be given to the institutions of the city that were created within the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country throughout its history: Chamber of Commerce, originally Commercial Court;
Polytechnic University of Cartagena, that was born under the name of School of Foremen of Mines;
the Conservatory of Music;
the Municipal Archaeological Museum;
Maritime Captaincy and the Isaac Peral Institute, now called Jiménez de la Espada.
On Tuesday, December 11, will take place the conference on the Royal Economic Societies of Spain, its origins, innovation and evolution.
That will be taught by the doctor in History and Geography, Cristina Gutiérrez, at 20:00 in the auditorium of the Economic.
The program will also offer a round table, which will address the period of 'Carlos III and the Enlightenment in Cartagena'.
It will be on Wednesday, December 12, also at 20:00 in the auditorium of the Economic.
The activities will continue on Thursday, December 13, dedicating the day to poetry.

Life and work of Enrique Piñana Segado, to be taught by the PhD in Hispanic Philosophy, Belén Piñana.
The Cultural Week will end on Friday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m., with an event that will award the Gold Medal for Merit to Juan Carlos Navarro Valls.
During the week the theater group Ditirambo will also participate, set and recreating the history that is commemorated in this 185th anniversary.
