The Municipal Corporation has commemorated this morning the 40th anniversary of the approval in referendum of the Spanish Constitution on December 6, 1978, with an extraordinary plenary session in the Town Hall, to which they have come as guests of honor councilors of the first democratic Corporation, elected months later, in 1979, under the Magna Carta.
Among them were Antonio Vallejo (PCAN);
José Linares (PSOE);
Francisco Morata (PCAN);
José Bonet (PCAN);
Juan José Alcaraz (UCD);
Ángel Morenilla (UCD) and José Leal (PCAN).
Along with them officials who were part of the staff at that time and still active as Juan Zamora Raja, Mariana Cerezuela Cegarra, Florentina Martínez Pérez, Manuel Guirado Párraga, José Manuel Vilar Andrés and María Dolores Ortiz Martínez;
and two of the Cartagena born on December 6, 1978, Ana Esther Roca Pérez and María Inmaculada García Sánchez
The session began on 11 a.m., with the reading by the accidental general secretary of the names of the councilors who made up that first democratic Corporation.
Next, the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, spoke about what constituted the entry into force of the Constitution for the city of Cartagena and its City Council.
In his speech he referred to the role played by the first democratic mayor, Enrique Escudero de Castro, who knew how to lead a spirit of concord and consensus to implement constitutional values, improve participation and quality of neighbors and social sensitivity and cultural of the institution.
He also had words of thanks to all the councilors of that legislature, who knew how to rise to the occasion by defending the Constitution during the coup attempt of 23 F.
The mayor has also highlighted the subsequent work that many of them had when leaving politics, always at the service of society from other facets.
Castejón has also recognized the effort and work of the municipal officials of those years, who knew how to give themselves to put in value and make reality the constitutional principles.
Finally, he thanked the presence of two of the people born in Cartagena on December 6, 1978 and who will be 40 years old with the constitution tomorrow.
After giving a gift to each of them, the mayor has given the floor to José Bonet, who has encouraged the current Corporation to work for Cartagena.
The simple act has concluded with a photo of all the assistants in the main staircase of the palace.
