The percentage increase in registered unemployment during the month of November in the Region of Cartagena was slightly lower than that experienced in the same month of the previous year
(+ 1.6%) as the average of the months of November of the last 10 years (+ 2.3% for the period 2008-2017).
Therefore, at the county level, "November was somewhat less negative than what the months of November tend to be in terms of increases in unemployment," according to the Monthly Report of the Labor Market of the Comarca of Cartagena, prepared by the Service of Studies of Economic Conjuncture of the UPCT, with the collaboration of the Regional Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena (COEC).
In year-on-year terms, unemployment fell in November in all sectors, especially in agriculture (-11.2%), construction (-11.0%) and services (-5.9%).
Therefore, "the last twelve months as a whole can be described as positive in terms of reducing unemployment in the region of Cartagena," adds the analysis conducted by the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
The total number of unemployed in the region of Cartagena in November 2018 stood at 29,155 people.
This represents an increase of 444 unemployed compared to the month of October, 1.5% more.
By sector, unemployment increased especially in the industry (11.2% more than in October), although it also rose in services (+ 1.6%) and in construction (+ 0.8%).
On the contrary, unemployment fell in the agricultural sector (-7.0%).
The number of unemployed increased in almost all the municipalities of the region of Cartagena.
The only exception, as in the month of October, was Torre Pacheco, where the number of unemployed fell by 5.1% and is the only municipality where unemployment fell in the service sector.
The largest percentage increases in the number of unemployed in November occurred in La Unión (+ 5.0%), Mazarrón (+ 4.1%), San Pedro del Pinatar (+ 3.6%) and Los Alcázares (+3 ,two%).

In interannual terms, the number of unemployed decreased in all of the region, with the highest percentage reductions in Torre Pacheco (-15.6%), San Javier (-7.9%), Fuente Álamo (-6.5%) ), La Unión (-6.3%) and Cartagena (-5.8%).
The president of COEC, Pedro Pablo Hernández, has prudently valued this slight increase in unemployment figures in our region, typical of these dates prior to the Christmas campaign.
However, the positive line stands out, both in the inter-annual figures and in seasonally adjusted terms.
"We are concerned about the political uncertainty and how it can influence the economy of the region of Cartagena, such as the recent refusal, without justification, to make the corresponding transfer of water that is so necessary for the agri-food sector, which is so important in the Region of Murcia ", said the president of COEC.
"Tomorrow, in the Conference of Business Managers organized by the Confederation, we will have the opportunity to analyze one by one the different sectors of our production model and propose various proposals for improvement and future," concluded Pedro Pablo Hernández.
In seasonally adjusted terms, registered unemployment in the region decreased by 254 people in November 2018 compared to October 2018 (see figure 2), which represents a fall of 0.9%.
This decrease confirms that the increase in the number of registered unemployed is mainly due to seasonal effects.
In seasonally adjusted terms, the number of unemployed in November 2018 is the lowest in the region of Cartagena since May 2009-
Registered seasonally adjusted unemployment decreased in more than half of the municipalities of the region in November 2018 with respect to the previous month, especially in Torre Pacheco (-3.2%).
The municipalities where unemployment increased in seasonally adjusted terms were La Unión (+ 0.5%), San Pedro del Pinatar (+ 0.4%) and Los Alcázares (+ 0.2%).
At the national level, the number of unemployed registered in the offices of the Public Employment Services has decreased by 1,836 people in the month of November.
In 2016, unemployment increased in the same month in 24,841 people, and in 2017 it increased by 7,255.
In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment has dropped by 26,258 people.
During the last twelve months registered unemployment has decreased by 221,414, slightly accelerating its year-on-year reduction level to 6.37%.
Thus, the total number of unemployed stands at 3,252,867.
Registered unemployment has decreased in 7 autonomous communities, mainly in Madrid (-5.921), Andalucía (-4.379), Comunidad Valenciana (-3.529), or Castilla-La Mancha (-3.509).

By economic sector of origin of the workers, the registered unemployment has been reduced in Industry in 1,448 (-0,51%), in Agriculture and Fishing 370 (-0,25%), in Construction in 155 (-0,06% ) and in the group without previous employment in 7.955 (-2.75%).
On the contrary, it increased in Services by 8,092 (0.36%).
The labor market of the Region of Murcia recorded a slight rise in unemployment in November, which was accompanied by a consistent improvement in Social Security affiliation, according to statistics from the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.

The approximate rate of registered unemployment (TAPR) of the region with data from October 2018 is 19.3%, 0.4 percentage points more than in September but 1.1 percentage points less than in October 2017.
This dynamic of increases in the TAPR with respect to the previous month but decreases in the TAPR in interannual terms is repeated in most of the municipalities of the region.
The exceptions are Fuente Álamo and Torre Pacheco, where the TAPR fell slightly in October compared to September, and La Unión, where the October TAPR was the same as in September.
This last municipality is still the one with the highest TAPR (37.6%), followed by San Pedro del Pinatar (22.4%) and Cartagena (21.5%).

The TAPR is referred to October 2018 because the Social Security will publish the number of affiliates from November to mid-December.
