The City Council of Cartagena has awarded the 2018 Volunteer Commitment Award in its individual form to María Requena Meana, a volunteer of the Fade Foundation since 2009, responsible for organizing a volunteer service in collaboration with the Social Work teams in the area of ​​Pediatrics. Hospital de Santa Lucia through the SECUNDA JUNIOR Project and since 2016 coordinating a new project in the area of ​​Oncohematology called SECUNDA SMILE, being this pioneering project at a national level in the field of adult onco-hematological patient care.
In its collective modality, the prize went to the social project developed by La Botica del Libro, an entity that has been fighting against social exclusion for fourteen years, in two highly vulnerable neighborhoods in Cartagena, such as Lo Campano and Jose M. Lapuerta. .
During this time it has offered the groups with whom it works, specifically children, immigrants and people in a situation of social exclusion, answers to the individual collective needs of both neighborhoods.
All this, supported by volunteers (teachers of adult and primary education, educators and residents of the neighborhoods where it operates).
The recipients of these awards have been announced today by the president of the Assessment Committee of the aforementioned Awards and Councilor of the Department of Social Services, Education and Transparency, Mercedes García Gómez, after the meeting held to assess the nominations submitted and fail the winners
Both candidatures have been approved unanimously in a Commission of the Award integrated by technicians from the Department of Social Services, Education, Youth, Culture, Equality and Sports.
The awards ceremony will take place on December 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the Cartagena Cultural Center of the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation on Calle Mayor.
