Plaza del Par will become this Saturday, December 1, in an outdoor art gallery with the itinerant project 'Red Shoes', designed in 2009 by the architect and artist of Ciudad Juárez, Elina Chauvet, and which constitutes a critical social violence against sexist violence and feminicide, which has toured many cities in Europe and America.
The installation was presented this Friday, November 30, the Councilor for Culture, Youth and Equality, David Martinez, the director of the Popular University, José Macián, and the teacher of the same center, Cristina Navarro.
According to Martinez explained, 'Red Shoes' has been carried out from the Popular University with the collaboration of the Implicados project of the Department of Youth and the Immigration program of the Department of Social Services.
The Popular University has been responsible for organizing shoe collection and painting workshops that will integrate this impressive installation and those that have introduced messages of encouragement, unity and hope.
The red color with which all the shoes have been tinted symbolizes both the blood of the women victims and the hope that together we can end gender violence.
With this artistic manifestation, it is intended to question the citizenship and place it before a reality that can only be eradicated if all the agents involved join to achieve it.
Therefore, from the Popular University encourage all Cartagena to visit this installation of public art and interact introducing their positive messages, so that these shoes are loaded with hope.
"The placement of a large number of pairs of women's shoes painted red will be in an urban location, in this case will be the Plaza del Par de Cartagena, on December 1, from 11 in the morning until the 7 in the afternoon ", detailed the mayor, who plans to attend the artistic event.
'Red Shoes' is one of the latest works that Chauvet has designed to invite reflection on the disappearances and murders of women around the world and, especially, in Ciudad Juárez, where Chauvet's own sister was murdered at the hands of your spouse
All the graphic material generated by the installation will be sent to the artist Elina Chauvet and she will integrate the documentary file that she is making with the replicas that are being developed in all the countries.
The professor of the Popular University, Cristina Navarro, has explained that 'Red Shoes' has been a process that culminates with the installation in the Plaza del Par, but that previously "people have come to the Popular University, have brought the shoes They have painted them and the last thing we have to do is take the installation to the street and let the citizens find it. "
