The students of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Pablo Moyano and Enrique Fernández have won the technological challenge launched by FleetBoard, from the Daimler group, to monitor fleets and improve the experience in Mercedes trucks.
The students of the degree in Telematics Engineering of the Polytechnic participated last weekend in the biggest marathon of programming (hackaton) of Europe, Junction 2018, held in Helsinki, competing in the group of mobility challenges.
The company FleetBoard, of the Daimler group, launched the challenge that the UPCT students won, forming a team with two other young students who are currently working for the Vueling company as programmers.
"The challenge was to develop an application that can be implemented on the on-board computer of the Mercedes-Benz trucks, with which we can improve the experience of both the driver and the services they provide," explains Enrique Fernández.
The team formed by students of the Polytechnic developed the project 'TruckSense', an application that captures the information in real time of the truck and that in turn sends it to a server to be able to apply machine learning techniques to predict future data and transmit and show all this information in graphic form in real time through a web application.
As a reward, they have a trip and stay paid for three days in Sttutgart, headquarters of the car group, during which they will receive a workshop on innovative applications and share their knowledge with the group of engineers currently developing the applications of on-board computers. of the company trucks.
To participate in Junction 2018, a marathon of programming in which the participants had 40 hours to provide a solution to the challenge they wanted to present themselves, the students of the Polytechnic had to pass a pre-selection that left out almost 9,000 of the 10,000 candidates.
They were chosen for their experience both programming and other personal projects promoted by the Free Open Source Club (FOSC) of the Polytechnic.
In fact, there are already three awards obtained by Pablo Moyano in hackathon-type competitions.
