- Cs reminds the mayor of Cartagena of his commitment to request the cession of the former Naval Hospital to turn it into a sociosanitary center for the care of the elderly

Citizens has managed to take forward an agreement for the City of Cartagena to launch a municipal plan to combat and prevent unwanted loneliness of the elderly in the municipality.

The initiative has been supported by PP, PSOE and Cs, and has counted with the abstention of MC and Podemos.

"This is a package measures Citizens has already presented successfully in other cities such as Albacete or Malaga, Cartagena should and can be a friendly space with their elders," he defended during the session, the spokesman of the orange training, Manuel Padin .

Among the wide range of political actions to improve the attention of this group, highlights the expansion and optimization of the Office of Attention to the Major and implement an "itinerant office", or look for some coordination system with the different OMITAS, in order to provide coverage in neighborhoods and county councils of our municipality.

In addition, Cs has proposed the implementation of a monitoring system to detect cases of loneliness among older people and the development of a municipal census to help determine, locate and subsequently be able to do a follow-up, to the elderly who live alone in the municipality.

"We believe that this work should be carried out in coordination with the different entities, associations and clubs of older people and senior centers of the IMAS, as well as sharing information with the security forces that detect cases in which an accident has already occurred. , in order to be able to do a follow-up and that this census serves to prevent and be able to avoid those situations in which police and firefighters have to intervene ", Manuel Padín explained, adding that" the optimization of the help services should also be studied. at home and telecare provided by the City Council, in order to be able to do this follow-up ".

The development of campaigns to put in value the necessary prominence of the elderly in our society, the increase in the number of intergenerational activities and the promotion of physical activity through the installation of biosaludable games and the arrangement of existing ones that are defective, are other measures included by Cs in the motion.

On the other hand, the orange training calls for the development of a study and analysis on the care needs of the elderly, considering the expansion of spaces for this group, taking into account the lack and need of residential places in the IMAS.

"The proposed study should include an analysis of the possibilities of financing and request for grants and subsidies for the expansion of spaces, and assess the possible request for assignment of the Naval Hospital to convert it into a sociosanitary center for the care of the elderly, prior repair of technical deficiencies on the part of the Ministry and previous assumption of investment "has indicated Padín clarifies that" we do not ask that the City Council with so many improper competitions assume this expense, but prepare the ground and favor this use for other administrations to manage it; the motion explains it clearly even though some parties have not been able to understand it. "

In any case, the development of this specific plan should be done without prejudice to the fact that, from the Area of ​​Social Services Seniors of the City Council, an Integral Care Plan for the Elderly can be configured, based on the projects that we know are already being developed since the accession of Cartagena to the Network of Friendly Cities with the Elderly that promoted Cs.
